     "SON OF A BITCH."

A silver wire tightly strangled his ankle. Where a possum or a rabbit was meant to have stepped, his foot did. He'd lost his footing and now he was trapped in a fucking snare — the sharp wire digging into his skin like it was clay.

Daryl cursed the son of a bitch who set the snare up — he didn't even have a knife to cut himself free. All he had was a small collection of green feathered arrows over his shoulder. The redneck gritted his teeth, as he angrily tugged on the wire — the silver line cutting into his bleeding palms.

He kept on pulling on the wire, hoping it would eventually break — it was sharp and stiff, but it wasn't steel — it had to loosen eventually. He didn't want to stay in the animal trap like open bait for walkers and thieves any longer than he had to.

"Come on." He seethed through gritted teeth. He completely ignored the rustling leaves behind him — he didn't even hear them.

The rustling became louder and closer, but the redneck was so determined to pull the wire off of his ankle, that he still hadn't noticed. He just kept aggressively pulling the wire apart and flaring his nostrils angrily.

The leaves rustled even louder and louder, as Daryl pulled harder and harder. And then a shadow cast over him — making the hairs on the back of his neck quickly rise.

"Daryl, look out!" Said a loud — female — voice.

Daryl swiftly dropped the wire and turned his head around to see two walkers clawing hungrily at him. The redneck shuffled away — as far as the snare would let him — and was angry at himself for being so oblivious to what was going on around him.

A figure — who Daryl had heard earlier — emerged from the forrest quickly after ; it was Ophelia.

She threw her hunting knife into the walker closest to Daryl, the blade thrusting into the back of it's head. It quickly fell to the floor, making a loud thump in the pile of leaves covering the ground. Daryl kicked it away with his foot, scrunching his face in disgust.

The second walker shortly followed, falling limply next to his buddy. The girl retrieved both her blades — pulling them out of their bleeding heads — and then knelt down in front of Daryl and cut him free. The redneck was in a state of shock. Everything had happened so quickly.
