SHANE WATCHED COLDLY, through a narrowed gaze at the girl who laid unconsciously on the bedsheets. Her body limp under a thin blanket and endorsed in sticky blood.

He watched, as her pale skin slowly stained blood red, it dripping down her belly and onto the silk sheets. Her face, however, was as pale as a moonlit sail - drained of colour and life.

He watched, as Hershel pushed a needle through her skin with a thread trailing behind, pulling the ends of the wound together and preventing any bacteria from entering and causing an infection.

He watched, as whilst her brother sat by her side with his hand tightly within hers, Daryl gnawed on his thumbnail nervously: had he killed her, he thought to himself quietly, as he would pace up and down the room. He'd been the one to carry Ophelia here, when the wound begun to bleed heavily and when her eyelids fluttered shut.

Shane watched, as Ophelia's chest steadily moved up and down still - reminding him of the heart beating within her body, the heart of which had beaten within her chest when she tore him off of his lover and threatened to hurt him should he harm Lori.

Shane watched as the grim reaper closed his cloak and paddled away on his boat to the underworld empty handed. It was a shame, death only needed a little help in lifting up its cloak and devouring the injured girl - with a sweep of his cape the knowledge of which Ophelia knew, of which could destroy the fire burning between him and his lover if she spoke a word to anyone, with it.

Shane couldn't let her be the bucket of water to extinguish that fire. It was a shameful - a very shameful thought, but he could not help but picture his lover staying with Rick out of guilt should Ophelia open her mouth to him about anything...it would be better to stop that from happening. Shane knew what he needed to do.

WHEN OPHELIA FLUTTERED OPEN HER eyelids, she saw Daryl was sat in the chair next to her bed. She noticed how his ankle had been bandaged and bound with a cloth, whilst his hands still seemed covered in raw scratches. Though, as she adjusted her vision further, she noticed how in his lap rested a book he was reading silently.

She smirked. "Well I never thought I'd live to see the day - Daryl Dixon reading a book?"

Immediately, he closed the book and sat up straight. Startled by her sudden voice, he shrugged. "Was just wonderin' what you find so interestin' about it."
