THE NEXT MORNING HAD dragged on for what felt like hours and the scorching sun did not help at all - it made the quarry feel like an oven. Ophelia had never missed air conditioning quite so much as she did now.
"Y'all can't be serious. Let that girl hamstring us? The dead girl's a time bomb." Rick narrowed his eyes at Daryl. Responding, "What do you suggest?"
Though Ophelia had not been involved in the conversation, she had been eavesdropping. So in a sense, she was able to understand that a woman named Andrea had lost her sister to that of a walker bite. She found it irritating - they were arguing over what to do but doing jack shit.
"Take the shot. Clean, in the brain from here. Hell, I can hit a turkey between the eyes from this distance." She scoffed at Daryls suggestion, remembering how he had shot her in the foot, mistaking her for a walker. Clearly he was not that good.
"No, for gods sake let her be." A woman had said. Ophelia still had not learnt her name, but could not find herself caring either. She simply continued to dispose of the walkers that were killed after last nights attack.
As she began to lift one up, she had looked over at the blonde woman knelt beside her sister. Truthfully, Ophelia did feel sympathetic towards her, the pain of losing a sibling was not something the girl ever wanted to imagine.
Ophelia had furrowed her brows when she felt the Walker she had lifted become lighter. She looked opposite her to see it had been the muscular man she had fought beside last night, that begun to help her.
"You're new here right? I saw you last night, you're pretty good with a gun. I meant to introduce myself but...I was a bit busy. The names Shane. And you?" He had smiled, alas Ophelia only glared in response. "I don't need help."
Shane scrunched his face, but Ophelia ignored his confused expression and signalled for him to drop the body they were holding. Wiping the sweat that had formed on his forehead, he complied. "I'm sorry, you looked like you needed some help and I just-"
"And you look like you haven't washed in a while. Don't see me throwing you in the lake over there do you?"
T-dog had laughed at Ophelia's snide remark, as he placed another body in a grave beside them. Though Shane was not as amused, his eyes turned into slits as he gazed at the woman before him.
But, she did not care. It was not that she set out to be rude, it was that she did not like it when people presumed her to be weak. It was harsh but she found herself becoming agitated by the scorching sun burning her.
