As my alarm beeped, I leapt out of bed. Today was the day. My new life, new reputation and Chloe McAdams' brand new beginning. It was the first day of high school. I just couldn't wait to meet new people and maybe even fall in love, like in the movies. '
Unfortunately the possibility of that was unlikely because I'm not exactly the 'perfect' girl. I'm not model skinny, but kinda plump and curvy. I have browny red hair and I'm a nerd.
I don't have glasses or braces or any of that, but I still am. I love Harry potter, the hunger games, mortal instruments and more. I get good grades and love reading. So yeah, I'm a nerd by definition.
As I arrived at school, I was enjoying the feeling of not knowing anyone, and after putting down my books I was heading straight for where I was sure to spend most of my time. The Library. With a capital L.
I go straight to the 'C' section of fiction and find the first book to my favourite series that I have read a thousand times, 'Marked' by PC and Kristen Cast.
I borrowed it out and sat down to read. I was just getting to my favourite part when the bell went signalling the start of home room.
Home room was very interesting, everyone was torn between making friends but not wanting to be the first to say something. However, the boys were all friends almost straight away.
The girls were much more picky. There were some who knew each other and stuck together, and some who didn't know anyone, like me.
I decided to surprise everyone by doing something that no one else was, I sat down and read my book. This actually surprisingly seemed to break the ice, as the girls started to pick on me together. Except for the nerd group of girls, who looked at me enviously, probably wishing they'd brought a book.
" OMG, like nerd alert." sneered one of the girls who already knew people. After laughing at her obvious lack of brains, I noticed that the two girls she knew were on each of her flanks. Much to their dismay, I ignored them and just kept reading the book, I was already pretty far through.
I immediately hated those girls and their perfectness. Seriously, all three of them could have been models. The main girl was blonde, stick-figure skinny, and had caked on make-up. She was wearing a shirt that only went down to her belly- button and shorts that barely covered her gluteus maximus.
The other girls were practically her twins. The only difference was that they both had freckles and way less make-up. Also, they were both brunettes, had on miniskirts and shirts that actually covered their entire torsos.
I heard a snicker next to me as the girls sauntered off, unsatisfied with my response. I turned to see who it was, and saw a boy sitting next to me. He was smirking, glancing from me to my book and back.
"What?" I asked, grumpily, " Are you gonna give me a hard time too? Seriously, what is wrong with you people, have you never read a book before?"
"Actually," he replied, smirking, "I was just going to ask what part you were up to, I love that series."
"Oh," I mumbled sheepishly, " sorry."
"So..." he reminded me.
"Oh, sorry, I'm up to where she goes on a date." I said.
" Oh yeah. I don't want to spoil it so I'll shut up now," he replied, miming zipping his lips and throwing away the key.
" Actually I've already read the books million times."
"Really? I often find myself debating between that and the Morganville vampires by Rachel Caine."
" Wow, I do too." we laughed and then I asked him, "Do you know anyone in this class?"
"Yeah," he replied, "but he's a jerk now. You?"
"No."
"Then I guess I have a big responsibility as your first friend, I'm Nate by the way."
"Chloe." I replied, maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.
