The next day, Tina and Reena were back. Despite everything that I thought would happen, Lina continued to hang out with us. I tried to convince her that Nate and I would understand if she wanted to hang out with her sister, but she wouldn't hear it.
It honestly surprised me, here I was thinking that Lina was actually mean and she up to her sister and friend for Nate and I, who she only really talked to for the first time yesterday. It was strange, and yeah, a bit suspicious.
But, not wanting to be mean or make her feel bad, I let her hang out with us. Besides, she was nice to us so far, and I quite liked her.
The only real problem was Danny, Reena and Tina. Beginning in form, they were at first surprised, but soon started mocking her and calling her a bitch and a traitor.
The last class of the day was English. The teacher told us to split into partners. Lina looked at us with a sad face and was about to walk away, when I grabbed her by the arm.
"Where are you going? We can be a group if three, silly!" I laughed at her relieved smile.
I left Lina and Nate talking while I went to the teacher to make sure that was alright.
"Look Chloe," she replied in a tone that made my face fall, " usually I would definitely let you three work together, but Danny Arthur has been misbehaving, so he can't work with his friends."
I stared at her with a blank look, hoping that she wasn't saying what I thought she was saying. "So...."
"So," she continued, " I'm afraid I must ask one if you three to work with him."
I walked back over to Nate and Lina and gave them the bad news.
"I should go with Danny." Lina said sadly, " we kind of get along."
Nate started laughing like a madman. He got strange looks from the rest of the class and, when he realised we weren't laughing with him, he stopped.
"You are joking, right?" he said, "You actually expect us to believe that after the way he's been treating you all day? Not going to happen."
"I'll go." I said, "Danny's insults barely reach me, let alone phase me, I don't want you guys to have to do it. I'll be fine."
"Thanks, Chloe." they said at the same time, as if they knew I was going to offer.
"You guys knew I'd say that, didn't you?" I accused, frowning.
" You're too nice for your own good." Nate said matter-of-factly, as I walked towards Danny.
"Sup, Your Royal Geekness?" Danny asked, lounging in his chair with a smirk in his face.
"Let's just do... whatever it is that we're doing." I replied coldly.
As if on cue, the teacher chose that moment to make an announcement.
"Okay class, this lesson, you and your partner will be thinking about the type of story each of you would like to write. The project will be term-long and count as 50% of your report this semester."
My jaw dropped, I'm stuck with Danny for a term? Damn it! I glance over at Lina and Nate and see them give me sympathetic looks.
My reaction, however, was minor compared to Danny's. He stood up quickly, making a lot of noise and causing the entire class to stop everything and stare.
"I..I am stuck with... that," he gestured to me, "for a term! That know-it-all bitch?"
"Mr. Arthur!" the teacher exclaimed loudly, "you may either express your discomfort in a quiet manner or leave my classroom, NOW!"
Danny, clearly still angry, slumped in his seat and was quiet for the rest of the lesson.
