I succeeded in avoiding Danny during the majority of the next day. Lina and Nate were gossiping with me about their date, again.
I was so happy for them, they were happy and I could tell. I had had a sudden strange realisation the other day, as I often do.
When you date someone, you either marry them or break up with them. I thought that was quite hilarious when I figured that out.
It doesn't really relate to anything, I just had a strange epiphany.
The classes that day were fun.
First period was wood shop, so we weren't working much and spent the whole class chatting.
Next we had PE. I actually really like sport, especially for a nerdy girl. I love basketball but I never really try during PE at school, because all of the popular kids take over.
Most times me and my small group of friends sit in the corner and, because the teacher is ignorant, we don't have to do anything.
However, this particular lesson, the class was playing a compulsory basketball game, and I mentally groaned. I didn't want to play basketball with the sporty jerks in my class.
Surprise surprise, one of those is Danny. He is such a basketball show-off, which is ironic because he's not really that good.
The teacher chose two captains and they took turns choosing a player for their team.
Danny and Kyle were the captains. They took turns choosing until me, Lina, Nate, a nerd called Cherry and a shy girl named Annalise were left.
Kyle chose Nate, Danny chose Cherry, Kyle chose me, Danny chose Lina and we got Annalise.
Like I said, we'd never really played basketball during class, so I was excited, despite not wanting to play with these people.
We started with the captains in the middle. The teacher threw up the ball and Danny hit it towards a person on their team.
That person was Reena, who is very arrogant and thinks she's the best. I took advantage of this and went on her.
The look she gave me said that I was not a threat, so I pretended to fail and trip a bit so she'd underestimate me more.
She smirked and dribbled quite close to me. I stole the ball and sprinted down the other end, dribbling like mad.
I was a few metres away from the hoop, when I threw the ball through the air and it swished in.
I heard my team erupt in cheers and I grinned.
For the next tap, Kyle put me in and Danny went in again. The teacher threw the ball and I jumped as high as I could.
I swiped for the ball and felt in solidly connect to my palm. It went hard towards Annalise, who fumbled a bit with it and tossed it weakly in a random direction where no one was standing.
I sprinted to it, but Danny got there just before me, he ran hard towards their hoop and shot it in. He missed the first shot, chased it and tried again. He got it in the second shot.
The teacher told us that the bell would soon go, so the next goal won. We got the tap and Kyle ran towards the hoop.
Reena stole it from him and ran towards their hoop. She threw it weakly at Danny and another of the sporty boys on my team easily intercepted it.
He ran towards our hoop and Danny stole it. Danny was so close to the hoop, with me right on his tail, and he thought they had the game.
Just then, I stole the ball from him and I sprinted all the way down the court. I could feel him behind me but he was slower.
I approached the ring and shot. It hit the edge of the hoop and at first I thought it was going out but it bounced around the ring a few times before going in.
Then, my team literally picked me up and I laughed. The entire other team along with a good majority of mine, were unbelievably surprised that I tried and didn't suck.
That was the best sport lesson ever! The rest of the day went very similarly to that, with everyone congratulating me, and during last period English, I succeeded in avoiding Danny's questions and we only did work.
I told him we couldn't work at my house tonight, and he nodded and we didn't say another word. I was quite proud of myself.
At the very end of English class, we heard announcement over the PA system, which reminded us that the disco was tomorrow night.
That was why Danny and I couldn't study, we were going shopping tonight.
I can't wait to go with mum and Lina, it'll be fun, but agonising as all hell.
