The next day at school I shared with Lina everything about my happy little study session.
She gasped at what he said and stalked off.
I chased after her and asked what she was doing. Apparently, she was going to 'slap that bitch out.'
I laughed loudly, proper, wholehearted laughs.
"Thanks Lina, but I'm fine. I don't need you to do that."
"You, my friend, are way too nice for your own good. If someone did something to you, what would you do? Huh? How would you defend yourself?"
I decide I should tell her. I looked around dramatically, like a spy in a movie, and took her by the shoulders, leading her to a private space.
"Chloe, what are you d.."
I interrupted her by whispering in her ear, "I do karate."
Her eyes widened, "Omg, that is awesome, did you start recently? Are you good?"
"Actually, I have been doing it for years," her eyes widened further, "and I'm kinda a black belt."
"Kinda?!" she asked/screamed.
"I am a black belt."
She sighed in relief, "I'm so glad you're able to defend yourself."
I laughed, "Just don't tell anyone, please?"
She agreed and we walked to find Nate and go to class.
---------------------
At the end of the day, I had to walk home alone because Nate never showed to school, and Lina left halfway through the day because she was sick.
I was late leaving school because I went and asked the Math teacher for extra work because I was finished all the assigned tasks.
The school was practically empty when I was leaving. Only about two or three kids were still loitering.
I was at the tree-covered path out of school. Not everyone went this way but it was really pretty.
I was admiring the beauty of nature when a hooded person jumped from behind one of trees.
He came for me and at first I didn't realise what was happening. I thought maybe he was lost. His hood fell down and I saw a familiar face.
Kyle.
Remember? Danny's friend who used to be friends with Nate?
Yeah, him. I was still talking to myself in my head when I realised he was speaking.
"-be really hot if you wore less clothes. I want to see what you'd look like in less clothes."
I panicked when he reached for my shirt and remembered what Zane had taught me.
I kneed him in the man spot, got down low and spun around with a leg out, knocking him off balance.
I got on his back and pulled his arm into what I know to be a painful position and said through gritted teeth, "Don't ever touch me."
He was nodding in agony so I let him go. Then another person ran up to us.
"Dude! Are you okay? What the hell wom..." The guy looked at me and I realised it was Danny.
Danny mouth was so open he looked like a fish. I couldn't help myself, I reached out and lightly knocked his bottom jaw back up.
"No need to look at me like I'm an alien." I said, meaner than I usually would.
