                                                                       fairy of a chance

Gwen was in a glorious mood when she left Maggie's compact sized cottage on the edge of the woods.  Walking through the forest when in the distance she saw something, in a tree ahead. This sparked her adventurous curiosity. She walked a little faster towards the tree. Once Gwen got a little closer to what she saw from a distance sparkle in the tree, able to what it was.

It looked like a fairy. As she got closer she saw that the fairy was a girl. Gwen was not sure what she should do. She had seen them from far away, heard that they lived near the forest, but never had she met one. She just hoped that this creature was friendlier than the last one she met in a forest.

Should she introduce herself to this magnificent creature of the forest? She took a deep breath and counted to three.

"Hello there, I'm Gwen" she greeted the little thing,

The little fairy did not move, and was speechless. Looking  as though she were an animal caught in a trap. Gwen could see the poor thing was frightened by the paralyzed look in her tiny sparkling eyes.

"It is alright I'm not here to harm you "she soothed the fairy. After a very long pause, the little thing spoke to her.

"I'm called lily", she informed the human still a little skittish of her.

"It's really nice to meet you; I have never met a magical creature before." Gwen admitted which made Lily smile.

"You would be my first human as well." Lily replied to the mortal person.

"I'm a  friendly human." Gwen told her honestly.

Lily smiled at her and just said me too. She  couldn't feel a reason to fear her. That made lily smile. She was happy to know this girl was not a threat to her, so she relaxed.

"Are you a fairy?" Gwen asked her out of curiosity. Lily stared at her for a moment before she answered the question.

"No I'm not, I am a tree sprite. This is my oak tree, my home." Lily corrected her mistake.

"I like the oak tree it is beautiful, I do love the forest." Gwen told her.

"That is good not everyone respects the land." Lily commented to her new friend Gwen the human.

Gwen nodded in agreement with her. The two of them sat there by the old oak tree talking for hours on the forest floor. It turned out they had a lot more in common than they would have  thought. Once the sun began to hang low to the ground she realized how late it was getting to be. She looked at the tree sprite.

"Is it okay if I return here tomorrow to see you? It is getting late; I will need to get going." Gwen informed her.

"If you wish to sure, I would love that very much." Lily replied.

Gwen told lily goodbye for today before quickly heading back through the forest. She did not care for the forest at night. There were wild animals, trolls goblins, spiders ,bats, lots of things she didn't want to run into.  Darting  through the forest, as fast as her well toned legs could move. Gwen was back into town just before dusk.

She then walked most of the way until reaching the hill. She would always run up the hill home no matter how far she walked. She eventually went into the house. Sofia turned around almost instantly and glared at her teenage daughter. Her eyes seemed to darken in color. Gwen thought she was in some serious trouble. Sofia sighed just slightly. She took a deep breath, and then asked her daughter where she had been.

"In the forest, mother." Gwen answered her mother right away. Sofia shook her head before continuing.

"Edwyn was here. He wished to see you, I told him you would be available tomorrow night." she asked in a serious tone.

"Yes, thank you mother. I love you." Gwen replied.

"I love you too dear." Her mother replied to her daughter.
