Around the same time when Veronica was attempting to figure out the strange visions, far across the forest in the village Gwen was having a day with Trinity. The two were out shopping in the village square. Trinity looked at her new found kindred spirit and grinned at her. The two walked into the dress shop first, both agreeing that a new dress for each of them sounded like a nice splurge.
The shop keeper had quite a good selection of colors and styles. Trinity didn't own a dress, so Gwen had told her that wasn't acceptable, every woman no matter how old should own at least one dress. The two were sifting through the dress rack, giggling about some of the less tasteful dresses available. It didn't take Gwen that long to find a dress she liked, a frilly white lace with pink and orange roses lining the hem. It wasn't too expensive; she thanked the gods for that.
Trinity took a little longer to find one. She looked through the first two racks of dresses, but she sensed the third rack would have one more suited for her comfort. Sifting through the third rack, she saw a plain lavender sundress. Trinity's eyes widened with excitement.
"Gwen, come over here, I think I've found the most perfect dress."
"Okay I'll be right there, just a second." Gwen replied, setting down the purse she was admiring and quickly walking to see the dress her friend had picked out.
"What do you think about this one?" Trinity asked hoping for Gwen's approval.
"It's absolutely gorgeous, I love it."
"Great, I think I'll take it. I'm not much into wearing a dress but I might make an exception for this one." Trinity admitted to her shopping partner.
"I think I'm ready if you are."
Trinity brushed the hair back from her face and nodded. The two of them walked up to the cashier to pay for their purchases. Troy the shop keeper's son had ringed up their sale. He was tall and well built; at least Trinity had thought so. He had sea green eyes and hair that was sandy blonde.
"Gwen, hi there. Is this all?" Troy asked in a professional tone.
"Hi, yes just the dress today." Smiling brightly she waited for her dress and coin change. She thanked him and then waited for Trinity.
"Hi, did you find everything okay?"
"Yes, thank you."
"I don't think I have met you before." Troy admitted to the unfamiliar girl in the shop.
"I just moved here, I'm Trinity."
"Great to have met you, I'm Troy."
"It's good to meet you too." Trinity replied blushing just a little. She then accepted her change and grabbed the dress, following Gwen out of the store, the two headed into the square. Once they were out walking through the square the two stopped to rest a moment.
"So what did you think of Troy?" Gwen asked with a wink.
"He was nice."
"Did you think he was cute?" Gwen asked with a grin.
"I guess so, I don't really talk to boys that much." Trinity sheepishly admitted.
"Why don't you?" Gwen asked with a look of bewilderment.
"Boys intimidate me." Trinity answered her in a shy tone of voice. Looking off in the distant horizon of the majestic forest, she said nothing more.
Then a girl she'd never met before walked up to Gwen.
"There you are I've been looking all over for you!" Squealed the girl, as she met up with Gwen.
"Emily you're back how wonderful to see you!" Gwen spoke with delight.
"Who's this, is she new?' Emily asked, puzzled.
"Oh, forgive me, Emily this is Trinity she moved here while you were on your honeymoon."
"You two seem to be hitting it off, like old friends." Emily spoke in a cold tone.
"Yes, just like best friends." Trinity spoke up with a bright smile.
"I can see that." Replied Emily then she turned and shot Gwen a look of pure hatred.
Gwen could tell something was wrong with her best friend of over a decade. She took a deep breath and then gave Emily a softened look.
"What's wrong, you look upset."
Emily had a look of something far worse than anger or jealousy upon her now reddened face. She looked as if she wanted to hurt Gwen and Trinity both. Something seemed to dark to Trinity, she looked to her newest friend, hoping things would be okay.
"Tell me best friend of mine, did you even notice I have been gone for weeks? Did you even think of me at all or am I just something you can replace?" Emily growled at her like a rabid dog.
"Emily, I can't believe you, of course I missed you! Do you expect me to sit and twiddle my thumbs while you're away? "
Gwen shot back at her childhood friend with a fierce glare.
Emily stared at Gwen with an open mouthed look of shock.
"Furthermore you just got married, I'm sure you'll be spending most of your time with James. What about when you have kids? Do you expect me to sit and hope you can visit?" Gwen spat at her.
Trinity didn't know what to do, she felt a little out of place with this argument, unsure if she should try to help.
"So that's it then, bye." Emily shouted, angry and hurt she stormed off and back home.
Gwen just shook her head in disgust.
"I can't believe her, acting like a jealous brat." Gwen commented to Trinity.
"I didn't mean to cause a problem with her."
"You didn't do anything wrong."
Trinity smiled at her, glad to know that Gwen didn't blame her for Emily's little tiff. She smiled and hugged her friend.
"We won't let it ruin our fun today, come on let's go check out some of the other shops before we go home. Emily will come around trust me."
"Do you really think so?" Trinity asked with a sad look of hope.
"Yes, I've known her most of my life she will calm down in a day or two."
"Are you sure about that?"
"We can only hope. Come on let's have some fun before we go home."
Trinity nodded and the two headed off for a small trinket store, they sold not just trinkets but candles, pottery and a few nice things to spice up a room. Gwen went there on occasion with her mother. The young witches spent hours walking around the square, shopping and bonding together. They both nearly forgot about the spat with Emily. As the sun began to fade behind the horizon, the two headed back through the town and up the steep grassy knoll leading to the cottage.
