Late that same evening Gwen was in her bedroom with her white pillar candles burning away, flipping through the book of shadows. She had to admit there really was not that much in it . She liked filling diaries when she was younger; with this one she wanted it to be special. Nothing unimportant in it would do. If it didn't have a special significance, she didn't write it down. She flipped to the first blank page she could and wrote about the tree sprite. She had learned a little about her. Gwen had even done a small drawing of lily's home, the ancient oak tree.
She finished her entry and put the book in her hope chest. She blew out the candles and headed to sleep for the night. She found sleep rather easily that night. The next morning she felt refreshed and ready to get a jump on things for the day. She got dressed with haste, and then headed through the house to get her chores done.
She had a little to do, sweeping and dusting. She went to the garden; she pulled weeds for over an hour. Even though it was early in the summer a few roses were starting to bloom, as well as the carnations. The herbs were coming along. She whispered to the essence of the life cycle out here in her own backyard. It was mysterious, it was breath taking, and it was nature and her magic at work. Going back inside after finishing chores and headed to her room for any supplies that she may want to bring.
She then headed out of the cottage and walked through town and into the forest. She could not wait to see lily. She was nice and sweet; Gwen thought that they would become the best of friends. She adored the little tree sprite.
Lily is majestic and beautiful. She was a gorgeous blonde with dark raven eyes. She wore a long orange red dress. Gwen was also excited to learn all about the sprites, their culture and history. It was interesting. She started to wonder what other creatures she might meet in the forest. It puzzled her a great deal. She would ask lily when she got to the old oak tree and saw the tree sprite. She was almost through town when she saw Edwynn. He was standing outside his father's shop and Gwen immediately ran over to greet him. She smiled brightly at him. He hugged her tightly.
" Hello." Gwen greeted him.
"Hey there dear. I take it we are still on for tonight?" he asked half way kidding with her.
"Of course we are silly." She teased him back.
He blushed a little and kissed her. Gwen stayed a little while and talked to him. She could not wait to be alone with him tonight. She stayed for a long while, enjoying finding out more about him, his family. She knew she needed to get back to the forest soon, she wanted to see lily. She made sure to hug Edwyn a little longer before she headed into the woods. She ran through the forest and wanted to get to lily as fast as she could. She felt a pull to this tree sprite like there was a reason the two had met. As if the fates played a hand in this.
Once Gwen arrived at the old oak tree she looked up. She saw lily sitting high in the tree on a branch playing a wooden flute. Gwen smiled upward at her new friend. She waited a moment but lily did not notice her. Gwen just shook her head
"Lily hi there!" Gwen shouted to her.
"Gwen it is great to see you." Lily spoke after putting the flute down and flying down to Gwen.
"I'm so happy that you have come to see me."
"So am I lily." She replied to her friend.
"So tell me do you have a mate?" Gwen asked her very curious about it.
"No not yet I don't" lily admitted, "Father says I am too young still." She informed the mortal Gwen.
"That is too bad. How old are you?"
"I am seventy three." Lily told her.
"How old do you need to be to have a mate?" she asked the sprite puzzled by her "To be with a mate at least seventy five." She informed her human
"What do you do for fun?" Gwen asked her friend lily.
"We play music, dance and sing. We make thinks out of wood only after the wood has fallen from a sacred tree."
Gwen was listening to her, drawn in by each word the tree sprite. Lily told her a lot of what life as a tree sprite was like. She had friends, both tree and earth sprites. She did not know any water sprites. She told Gwen of their laws and customs, of the history of the tree sprites. Gwen had in turn told lily all about her human life, the small town of Galderia. She told lily about her mother and father. She told lily all about Maggie and of course her Edwin, the boy she had started seeing less than a week ago but cared for him deeply.
Lily had really enjoyed seeing her human friend. Lily was only a little disappointed when her new friend had to head back home. She really was looking forward to the next visit with her. The two of them were really becoming good friends.
Gwen did not want to go home yet but she needed to put on something nice before she had a date with Edwin. She was looking forward to it. She loved spending time with him.
She just enjoyed every single moment she was near him. He was simply intoxicating to her. She needed him like the plants needed rain. When she was not with him she was thinking of him.
Gwen stayed lost in her own mind through most of her walk back through the forest trail. When she returned home her mother was out tending to the family's garden. Gwen smiled, her heart swelled with pride. Her mother loved that garden. Sofia was always out there. She pulled weeds, talked to the plants whatever it was her mother did out there. Gwen headed out to the garden to talk to her mother for a moment before getting ready.
She strolled out to the garden, she told her mother she would be getting ready to leave very soon. Her mother told her to have a nice time out with him, but she seemed to half way notice Gwen. She was ready long before Edwin was supposed to come and get her for the evening out. It was the town's late spring festival; there would be a lot of people there. She knew that Emily and James would be there tonight. She also knew that a few other girls she befriended would be there like Sara and Sara's cousin Claire. She was visiting form out of town. A lot of her parent's friends would be there as well. Everyone was getting ready for the festival.
Gwen wondered if Maggie would be there tonight . Maggie didn't go out a lot especially at night never at night it gets dark I stay in she always would say. Her daydream was suddenly interrupted when she could hear Edwin's voice in the living area. She then thought to herself oh goddess he is alone with my parents. Gwen hurried along and went into the living area to be there in case he needed rescued from them. The poor fellow, she shook her head. She was in a nice laced lavender sundress, it looked elegant on her, and it was perfect for her.
"Gwen hello, you look radiant ". Edwyn complimented her and smiled.
She blushed slightly but she was glad that he liked the dress she chose. He had never said much about her outfits before. It made her very happy that he took notice. Minutes later the two of them headed out the door and down to the town square, to the late spring festival. Angus and Sofia had spent a little time alone before the two of them also went to the festival.
