One week later...
Trinity had noticed a change in Gwen over the last couple of days, since the personality flip happened with the dark sorceress. Gwen had been spending most of her free time with Veronica, and getting irritable when she was at home with her best friend and family. Whenever the witch of light was home it seemed she wanted to be alone all of the time. Shaking her head the witch of balance headed out of the bedroom and to the garden.
She paced around the flowers a while and sat down under a large cedar wood tree on the edge of their backyard. It helped her to think when she really needed to. Sophia was busy doing the family's wash to notice her surrogate daughter's look of concern. Leaning back against the tree's sturdy as ever trunk, lost in deep contemplation. Slowing down her breathing to begin her nature meditation, she concentrated on her best friend, one of the few witches she knew in this world.
Closing her eyes she fell into a deep vision, reflecting on Gwen and the current situation with Veronica. She needed help on a spiritual level. As she went deeper into her meditative state and idea struck her like a slap in the face. She needed to get help from someone outside of the situation, someone who cared for Gwen just as much as she did. She needed Maggie's advice. Slowly coming out of the altered state of being, and rising to her feet, she darted to the bedroom to grab her book bag and spell book before taking off from the cottage and racing through the village. She needed to get to the crone woman before anything drastic might happen to her best friend.
Running down the hill and through the village, Trinity felt more as if she were flying through the village instead of sprinting past it. At this exact moment in time, even though it appeared her world was in grave peril, she felt the wind blowing across her skin, ruffling her hair as she sped past the village and into the beloved forest. She started to see why Gwen loved it here so much. She kept a fast pace until she was in front of the elders door step.
Taking just enough time to catch her breath, then knocked on that old familiar wooden door, hoping she hadn't become a disturbance. Like always she heard the creaking sound of Maggie moving around in the old cottage heading for the door. A few minutes later the door slowly creaked open, Maggie peered around it to see who was at her door step. When she recognized one of her few students, she smiled, opening the door all the way and ushering her inside. Trinity stepped through the threshold and made her way to the kitchen table. She smiled briefly as she waited for the old woman to sit with her.
The elder witch smiled, and then shuffled her feet into the tiny kitchen to start the tea before sitting down with the young one. As soon as she sat down she stared at the young witch, waiting for the girl to tell her something. Trinity sat frozen in place for a few minutes, slowly shifting her position in the old chair.
"Tell me my young friend, is there a reason you've come by?"
"Yes, I'm worried about Gwen."
" I noticed she wasn't with you today. Where might she be?" Asked the elder.
"She is with the dark sorceress again." Trinity replied with a look of fear in her eyes.
"Tell me why does it worry you so much?"
"Don't you think it should worry me?"
Just then the tea kettle whistled, Maggie had nearly forgotten about it. She slowly got up and shuffled her way back to the small kitchen preparing the tea service for them.
Sitting back at the table with her tea cup raised, Maggie nodded to her.
"No I don't, if you show any signs of dislike Gwen will cling to the sorceress. That is far more dangerous than anything you've ever seen." Sipping her tea with enjoyment the old woman was hoping the advice would sink in.
"So you want me to ignore it?"
"I know you want to help her and keep her safe but the best thing is to just let it lead it's course, fate will step in." Maggie smiled and took a long slow sip of her tea.
Trinity sipped hers, thinking about the whole mess. She couldn't see any sense in doing nothing about it, she wasn't that kind of person and not that kind of a witch. She needed to wait, she knew that much.
She also was starting to know Maggie, the way the old woman could read a person, it was down right creepy. She had to act like everything was fine. Trinity smiled, sipping her tea until the cup was bare, the contents a memory. Knowing it was best, she changed the subject to magic and potions until the hour passed and then gently hugging the old witch goodbye.
Shutting the door behind her, she walked slowly back through the forest. Trinity needed to come up with a plan, knowing Veronica probably had one in the works right this moment. Needing to clear her thoughts, strolling through the dense forest, she had to think quickly or risk the possibility of losing the best friend she had ever known. One thing was for sure, she wouldn't give up Gwen without a fight. She was lost in her own thoughts by the time she reached the village square. It was as if she had been put into a trance. Before she had even realized it she was standing at the bottom of the hill near their cottage.
Climbing the large hill, she hoped she could slip off with the spell book for a moment of silence. she made it to the top of the large hill and into the cottage she saw that Gwen's parents were home but Gwen was still out for the day. She wondered how long her friend was going to be off with the dark sorceress this time.
Trinity wasn't jealous of this sudden new friendship between the other two witch practitioners, just worried. She didn't want to see Gwen get hurt by it. That girl had way too much faith in others. Gwen was the type to find the good in everyone but never the bad or danger in people. These thoughts crowded her mind as she made her way to the shared bedroom, she needed her book of shadows. It may help her find an answer to this entire mess. Flopping down on the bed she stayed lost in her thoughts as well as the spell book for the remainder of the evening.
