I'm so glad that Fatima and Nina are also in this class with me because Victor is also in this class.
And he is just so...agh!!!
He's bae material!
Actually, he and I haven't really spoken, so I just like his good looks. Our teacher, Mr. Pierre, was going over l'imparfait vs. passé composé.
"Bonne, the imparfait is used for incomplete actions while the passé composé is reserved for completed ones. Imparfait explains what was happening, with no indication of when or even if it ended. Passé composé announces what happened, actions that were completed. Someone give me an example of a sentence that is imparfait. How about...Abi?"
Huh? Me?
"Uh...j'étais à l'école."
"Très bien. And a sentence in passé composé...Stephanie?"
"Je suis arrivé tôt," she said proudly. I have to say, Fatima and Stephanie are the best French-speakers in this class.
"Très bien. Turn to the next page and I will have you all in groups of two. So, Nina and Fatima..."
Aw, man.
"Victor and..."
GASP! Please pick me!
"Quinn."
Aw, man.
"Stephanie and Abi." Meh. It can't be too bad, right? I took my books and sat next to Stephanie. We finished our exercises with minutes to spare.
"So, you've been at this school for almost two weeks now. What do you think of it so far?"
"It's really good. I used to attend this performing arts school in the city, Fiorello H. Laguardia High School."
"OMG, wow! Do you sing, dance, or act?"
"I play the guitar, acoustic and electric. I've been playing since I was seven years old."
"Oh that's really cool. Now, onto the juicy stuff. See any cute boys yet?"
I looked over at Victor, who was still working with Quinn. "Hmm...I kinda like one boy."
"Really? Who?"
"Victor Evans. I haven't really talked to him since my first day here but just look at him. He's so good looking and--" Suddenly, Stephanie wasn't smiling anymore.
She was frowning.
"What's wrong?"
"Uh...it's just...I don't know how to say this."
"Say what?" I asked her.
"Well...Victor doesn't date black girls." Wow. That shocked me.
"But...he's black. His Instagram bio says he's half-Bahamian and half-Scottish. 91% of Bahamians are black."
"I know. I know."
"One of his parents are black...so his grandma is black--how can a black guy hate black girls--"
"I don't know. I don't know." She kept shaking her head and shrugged. "Just to be clear, he's never dated a black girl or he said he doesn't want to date black girls?"
"Ehh...the second one."
I looked at him and sulked on the desk. Ugh, I hate black guys that hate black girls. This is a struggle all black girls face. Black men are the white men in the black community.
In every black show I've watched, it's always been a brown or dark skinned guy dating a light skin girl, while the dark skin girl is always seen as "ratchet." If you don't believe me, watch Martin or The Proud Family. You'll see what I mean.
Black guys have always preferred non-black girls OVER black girls. When black guys date outside their race, they say the reason why is because "black girls wear weaves", "black girls have nappy hair", "black girls have attitude", "this race is more beautiful than black girls", and other negative reasons. You're considered ugly if you're not a non-black girl or a light skin girl. And yes, there is a fetish black men have to mixed girls, and by mixed girls, i mean girls that "looked mix," yet will not acknowledge the mixed black girls that are dark skin and have 4c hair. The only way to look mixed is to be mixed! Don't generalize mixed people!
Ughhhh.............
