~Back to Maddie's P.O.V.~
"You're insane, Ty."
"Sonnie, I'm telling you. If you saw the chance, you would do the same."
"Yeah, right! There is no way I would ever put myself in a situation where I'm standing on ice on thin blades, wearing three hundred pounds of equipment, ready to fight against a guy wearing the same thing and is probably twice my size."
"But the opportunity is right there!" Tyler's voice cried through the speakerphone.
I chuckled and rolled my eyes at my phone sitting on my dresser as I brushed my hair. "I don't know what's more ridiculous, you having to play at seven am on a Saturday or you nearly getting into a fight in your first game."
"And I would've won if it weren't for the zebras ruining all the fun."
"Well, we kinda need you in one piece, Ty. Besides you're a goalie. They don't usually fight."
"Oh come on, the game was so boring!" He exclaimed. "I had to do something to keep things exciting and the other guy was up for it, so why not?"
"A hockey game with you, Ben and Tom on the same team, boring? I have a hard time believing that one."
"We were up 7-1! Things were slow on my end."
"That's pretty impressive, Ty. You could've tried to score a goal instead of picking a fight though." I grabbed my purse from my desk.
"Nah, fighting is more fun. Hey, will you be at the game tomorrow?"
"Depends. Are you gonna try to start a fight again?"
"Depends. Not if Tom starts one first. He was pretty intimidating out there today."
"Seems pretty exciting already. I'll see if I could make it out there tomorrow."
"Yeah, I'll text you the time and all that later. I'm too hungry to think right now."
I laughed at his statement. "Alright, go eat then, Ty."
"Later Sonnie!" He said, followed by a click and the line went dead.
I sighed as I pressed the red button on my phone and took one last glance in the mirror.
Today was the team party for my sister's soccer team. Mr. Hayden or Daniel had already made it known to me that he was definitely going to be there. And why wouldn't he be? The coach was his brother.
I was going to support my sister, tag along with my family, and of course for the chance to see Daniel outside of school. And as much as I hated to admit it, that was probably the main reason I was taking a little extra time to get ready.
With a sigh, I smoothed out my black blouse, which I had paired with black jeans and swung my bag over my shoulder. I decided to wear my hair straight today & let it down for once. And of course, I was wearing my beloved silver charm necklace. I applied one last coat of my favorite dark plum matte lip stain before tossing the tube into my bag and heading downstairs.
"Maddie, it's only a junior high soccer party. Nothing special. " My mother told me as she eyed my outfit as soon as I met her at the bottom of the staircase.
"I know. I just-ugh" I struggled as I pulled on my black flats. "Just thought I'd get a bit dressed up since it's Katie team and they did make the playoffs after all." I flashed my parents an uneasy smile, hoping my spontaneous lame excuse would be enough to convince them.
"Just don't go making us all look bad compared to you." My sister, Katie, smiled at me. Her dirty blonde hair was in a ponytail, held back with a pink headband & she wore a simple striped t shirt and denim shorts, paired with sneakers. I stifled a laugh at our completely contrast in style.
