The Quest

Confessions

"Selene, Selene. Wake up." A voice Wispers. I just want to sleep. A hand nudges me, it was a unsuccessful attempt to wake me up. I hear footsteps going away. Finally some peace, and quiet. I spoke too soon. I sit up gasping, soaking wet. Now I'm awake. I glare at Alexander.

"What was that for!" I yell at him. He takes a step back.

"I was just trying to wake you up!" He says defensively, putting his hands up.
 

"Well you did a good job!"  A slight smile, forms on his face.

"What are you smiling at?" I ask angerly.

"You're kind of cute when you're mad." My face flushes at his comment, and a smile forms on my face.

"See I got you to smile." He teases.

"Shut up, you did that on purpose!" I tease back.

"How long have I been asleep?" I ask.

"About a two days. When you passed out, the goblins were coming, so I picked you up and rode off."

"Thank you, for doing that. I just don't know what happened. How much long until we reach the kingdom?"

"About 3 days wroth maybe more. I've been trying to travel as much as I could with  you and me on Juno."

"This not so bad, we're making good timing." I reply.

"So what happened?" Alexander's tone goes from playful to serious.

"What do you mean?"

"What happened with the witch? What did she show you?"

"I don't want you dragged into this." I reply quietly.

"Get dragged in what? I'm here for you. We're friends. You can tell me anything?" He takes a step towards me. I must look frightened, with my wide eyes and messy hair because Alexander takes a tentative step towards me.

"Hey it's alright, I can always start first. I can tell you a confession, then you can tell me yours." His words are reassuring, I can trust him.

"Okay, you start." I reply. Me and him go and sit down near a tree. I lean up against the trunk, it's about 10 in the morning.

"I know I met you in the forest, telling you I was passing by. But what I'd didn't tell was the reason why I took the forest instead of the road and, the real reason I left the kingdom." Interesting, I just had feeling he was hiding something.

"Go on," I urge.

"The reason I left the kingdom was my mums fault. She wants me to get married. I'm definitely not ready for that much commitment though. So me and her got into a fight, so I left town. I wandered for a while, but I realized I have to make an appearance at the ball, so I can meet my fathers boss. You her, the business my fathers runs goes to me when he dies, so I have to meet the boss. Which leads me to the reason why I took the dark forest instead of the road.I had plenty of time to get back, but I kept stalling. Until finally I ran out of time." Alexander finally finishes his story, with a flushed face.

"I dont want you to be mad, I'm very sorry. But there's some things you haven't told me." He continues, there's a frantic look in his eyes, and his voice pleads for someone to listen. My heart softens, he has not had an easy life either.

"That's understandable. A deal is a deal, it's my turn now." I say reassuringly. I look up at him and he stares over at me very intently.

"The witch, show me what my life could have been. It showed me my brother, and my family. .md happy, with a prince at my arm. She showed me my failed hopes and dreams." I tell him, my voice slightly quivering. I continue with my story, telling him about the curse, and my competition to win the princes  heart, and finally my fight with my family. When I'm finished I'm out of breath, and Alexander is speechless. I took at him and he looks shocked.

"I know it's alot to take in." I say.

Alexander turns and looks at me, grabs my hand and pulls me inyi a hug. For a second I'm shocked but then I take it all in.

"I'm here for you, anytime you need something I'll be there." Alexander says like he means it. I try not to cry, but the tears come. I cry for Alexander, and for me. The things we've been through, the things we have to do. I cry, because this is one of the only friends I have, and we won't be friends for long.
