Chapter 9- Sharlene
I lay in bed in my blue sweat pants and a white tank top while my brain becomes full with thoughts. Some of which are not mine. It's probably around midnight. I haven't been able to sleep. Amy just got in from being with Bryce and her head is full of thoughts of him. The majority of them are cute. Just them talking and holding hands, but then there's a few of the thoughts I really didn't need to know. The downfall of my power. It is hard to control what I hear. My own thoughts consist of Peter, Shelby, Coren and my family. Especially my family. I wonder how they're doing. What are they doing? Are they looking for me? Is anyone looking for any of us here? Is Peter worried about me? Has he given up on me yet? Has Shelby jumped on the opportunity of my absence to take him from me? I've been gone for weeks, surely they think I'm dead. I would assume I was dead too.
There's a soft knock on the door that causes me to forget my thoughts. I wait for a moment to see if I was just imagining things, but another knock comes shortly after. I bend down to look into Amy's bed. She's sound asleep. I get up and quickly run over to the door. I wait there for another knock. When it happens I quickly swing the door open. The hallway lights pour into the room. I can't see anything, but the shape of somebody standing right in front of me. I cup my hands around my eyes to see who it is.
"I know it's late, like really late, but come with me." Coren says. Once my eyes get used to the light, I can see he is wearing jeans and a navy blue t shirt with a black leather jacket over top. I don't know how to react at all. Why is he dresses so late at night? Why does he want me to come with him? Where?
"What?" Is the only thing I can manage to spit out. It is so late my brain can not process.
"Just come with me. Please." He repeats sweetly. Very different from his grumpy mood this afternoon. I am so curious as to where he wants to go at midnight.
"Can you at least give me a minute to get dressed?" I ask with sass. Coren then looks at me from my feet to my knotty hair. I shift awkwardly as the silence continues after he looks at me up and down again.
"You look fine." He says charmingly.
"Yeah sure." I say as I close the door on him. I quickly throw on a pair of skinny jeans, a random shirt and some shoes, but I can't see what it looks like. I put my hair into a low pony tail. I make sure that I remain quiet. I don't want to wake Amy up. She would wonder what I am doing, but what am I doing? Once I am slightly presentable, I return back to the door and open it. Coren is leaning against the wall across from the doorway with his arms crossed. He looks at me up and down again.
"You really didn't need to change." He says as he comes towards me. He reaches is hand around me. I look deep into his green eyes. He looks back into my hazel eyes. He shuts the door behind me with the hand he reached around me with. It makes me jump as I suspected him to do something else. Coren smiles at me. He turns away and begins to walk down the hall towards the dinning hall. He stops and turns to me.
"You coming?" He says intriguingly. I begin to walk slowly towards him.
"Where are we going?" I ask when I catch up to him.
"You'll just have to wait and see." As soon as he says it, the excitement of the adventure begins to wear off. I hate surprises. The unknown is not fun, it is scary. We walk past the dinning hall, past our training room, and past many compartments, but we still have not reached our destination.
"How much longer do we have to walk?" I ask.
"Complaining already, Sharlene?" He giggles.
"I like to be called Shar and I'm not complaining, I'm just curious."
