Five Weeks Later
By the time that Saturday that we dreaded rolled around, part of me felt sad and drained. Austin would be leaving in two days. But technically for me it would be one more day. Of course he had his going away party tomorrow with friends and family, but on Monday before he left he would only be spending time with his family. Part of me felt like I should be there. After all, this secret I've been hiding should change things.
It was six forty five and Austin said he'd be at my house around seven to pick me up. I wore a dress, that looked like a white tank top, with a blue flow-ey skirt. Of course they were connected but dividing the two in half was a light brown (Caramel) colored belt. The top in the back was a lace material which showed off my tan skin.
I paired it with my diamond class ring, diamond heart shaped earrings Austin had bought me, and some sparkly, silver sandals. I was nervous to tell Austin the news. I knew he loved me but...I just I hoped he would understand this huge surprise. He would already be leaving for college and I would not let this ruin it for him at all.
Austin pulled up into my driveway in his black Sunfire. I yelled out to my parents letting them know I'd be home later and that they wouldn't need to wait up for me. I walked out to the car and Austin came over to my side after getting out to open the door for me.
"Thanks." I smiled up at him.
"You're welcome beautiful." He replied closing the door after I got in.
"I am so happy it's not as humid as it was earlier." I said, looking out the window.
"Me too, babe. That dress would have to come off though if you got too hot so maybe I would want it 100 degrees out here again." He replied with a smirk.
I shook my head and laughed. I looked down and twirled my class ring on my right hand.
I did not know how I would tell him the news but it would have to come out some time. I decided I'd wait until him and I were alone after dinner. Sometime at dusk when the boardwalk and beach were more cleared out.
"You okay?" Austin asked, glancing over at me. We were almost to the boardwalk.
"Yeah yeah, it's just setting in that this our last time of hanging out by ourselves." I replied.
"Maybe we can have a sleep over?" He asked as we neared the boardwalk's parking lot.
"Yeah, um maybe." I smiled as he put on his turn signal to turn into the parking lot.
"Wanna ride the Ferris wheel?" Austin asked.
We had just ate an ice cream cone so I didn't want to go on anything to... Exciting.
"Sure, sounds fun." I said as he took my hand in his and pulled me close.
"Paige?" Austin said as we neared the line for the ride.
"Hmm?" I asked.
"I love you. You know that right?" He asked.
I nodded before he leaned down to kiss me. "I love you too." I said after he pulled away.
I was totally cool with riding the Ferris wheel. My only problem was being stuck at the top, which was currently our position. I moved closer to Austin and snuggled into his side.
"Are you scared?" He laughed. I laughed as I hit his side.
"Stop laughing at me. What if this just like broke off and we flew out?" I asked.
"Babe, we won't. It's okay." He said kissing my forehead.
"I am going to break up with you if this thing br-breaks." I stuttered as I closed my eyes.
