Aquiver ~19

I put a bathrobe on after taking my shower. Both Tess and Eva are waiting in my room to help get me ready. Looking at the time, it's already noon.
"Tess? Eva?" I call out and open my bathroom door to see the both of them looking up from an album.
"You and Hayes were so cute when you guys were younger!" Eva smiles at the pictures.
"Oh," I half smile. "Yeah, he is..." I look down feeling sad actually.
"You two are going to look amazing tonight! I bet he's going to love your dress!" I bite down on my lip. They don't know yet.
"Umm... actually Hayes isn't taking me," I say quietly. The sound of paper flipping stops and I assume they both look up at me.
"What do you mean? Hayes isn't your date?" Tess asks me confused. I shake my head twiddling with my robe.
"Hayes and I broke up last weekend," I said even softer.
"Awe Char..." Eva starts. They both stand and walk over to me to give me a hug. "We didn't know."
"He planned the party yesterday for you." I look up towards them. "Now we're somewhat confused."
"He did?" Tess and Eva look at each other then back at me.
"Hayes has been planning this and came to the gym to help set up. He told us he wanted you to be welcomed back with everyone there and to show you our support. He said he couldn't stay because he had practice."
"That was really nice of him..." Tess looks at me carefully.
"Are you sure you'll be alright? If we would have known last night, we could have had lots of ice cream and watched a few of our favorite movies."
"I'll be okay," I say still sad and confused with my feelings. Maybe I can thank him later. He's probably enjoying his trip now. "I'm going with Jacob."
"You're going with your other crush?" Eva asks with a knowing look. I look down feeling my cheeks burn, but I'm also sad. I actually pictured this day with Hayes since middle school.
"Well let's get you ready then!" Tess beams trying to distract the sadness away from me. Tess pushes me into the bathroom and Eva turns the blow dryer on.
~Five Twenty-five in the evening~
"Almost done," Eva says doing my make-up.
"Just about there," Tess says from behind doing the final touches of my hair. I have been sitting on the chair for the past four hours. We ate a quick brunch after my hair was dried. My dress I put on about an hours ago in between our small break.
"There," Ava smiles at me and look up towards Tess.
"Finished," Tess says from behind. They help me to stand and I slowly turn around to face to turn around. My eyes widens astonished of my reflection. Both Eva and Tess smiles with their phones out.
"You guys did amazing. Thank you," I say and smile at everything. "I love it." We hear the doorbell ring and Tess offers to call us down in a few minutes. She leaves the bathroom and I smooth the side of my dress. Ava gives me a warm smile faintly.
"You've been thinking about Hayes this whole time, have you?"
"I couldn't help it. It actually sort of makes me sad going today," I sigh. "I'm thrilled and thankful Jacob is taking me. I'm more than grateful. Its that part of me that have pictured me with Hayes whether we were together or just friends."
"You can still be friends with Hayes. If that's what you want, you can still make that happen. You don't have to ignore him. And for Jacob, he's a great guy Char. He seems into you just as much as you are into him." I turn to Eva who looks at me with a small smile.
"I... don't know Eva."
"You're scared to show your emotions towards anyone except Hayes. Give Jacob a chance Char. Your cheeks burns when we mention him. He's really a nice guy. A musician even Char. Doesn't he make you happy?"
"Of course he does," I half smile.
"See? Give him a chance. I know you and Hayes have a lot of history, but you can fix that. Jacob has been waiting patiently for you and you yourself have mentioned that you don't want to get back together with Hayes. Take things slow. Talk to Jacob. You trust him, don't you?"
"I do trust him," I say softly.
"Then enjoy tonight and this weekend with him. You deserve to have a great night out."
"Char!" We hear coming from downstairs. I turn my head back to Eva who has a smile.
"You've got this Char. Here's your shoes. I'll take your duffel bag downstairs. I nod and slowly slip my heels on. I slowly make my way out of my room and take my clutch off the table where my phone, lipstick and a few bobby pins for emergencies. I then make my way out of my room and down the hall where I immediately can hear commotion down stairs.
My breathing increasing and I feel nervous as I approach the stairs. Eva behind me with my things and I take the handrail as I take the first step down the stairs. The commotion stops and it suddenly becomes quiet.

"You're a good guy Jacob," Aaron says to me as we wait by the front door. I held the small corsage in a small container. Becky, Char and Aaron's mom, is standing by the living room couch. She has a camera in her hand and I smile. Tess is down here also.
"I've never been to a formal dance for myself before," I answer nervously. Aaron chuckles beside me. He is also in his tux with a corsage getting ready to drive over to his dates house. He wanted to see Char first before he left. We hear movement from above and we all stop our conversations. I look towards the stairs.
My mouth parting and it feels as if everything has slowed down. Every step she took made me breathless. My heart racing, but at the same time feels like it's skipping beats. Her eyes searches the room and she locks eyes with me. She looks absolutely stunning in her dress. As she reaches the last few steps, I walk over to the stairs and held my hand out.
Her eyes never looking away from mine as she gently took my hand. I help her down the last few steps and she looks up at me. She's still not my height even with her heels.
"You look absolutely beautiful Char," I say lightly. I watch a smile form on her lips and she reaches over to kiss my cheek. My cheeks instantly burning, I turn towards her to see she is blushing.
"You look handsome in a tux," She says lightly. I smile in amazement that she's standing right in front of me.
"I need pictures of you two and Aaron should be in a few pictures!" Their mother says happily. Char gives her a small smile as we all make our way outside towards the front where the scenery bench is. I held Chars hand as everyone else stood behind the camera.
"This is for you," I say to her as I bring out the corsage and she smiles. I open the container and take it out gently as I placed the container on the bench. She held her arm up as I put the corsage on her. She looks down then looks back up at me with a smile and I smile back at her.
"Thank you." I nod as we turn towards the camera and we take pictures.
