Thinking Out Loud

Breathe Hayes. I take a glance at the clock and see twenty seconds left of the game. We're neck and neck with them with a tied score. We need to make that last play happen. Something.

I roughly get passed my opponent and look for who has the ball currently. Grayson is the one to scoop the ball from where I can see. I run towards him and try to keep up with his pace as we head for the net.

He's trying to pass the ball to Eth, but he can't get open, because he's completely blocked off and I call Gray out. This wasn't the okay, but we have about ten seconds now. He looks towards me and nods before I run ahead and he passes to me.

I can hear coach yelling at me from the benches. I take my last few steps towards the goalie and jump side ways as I shoot the ball towards the net. The buzzer goes off and I collide with the ground. Someone trips over me then I hear gasps going on as I close my eyes from the impact.

"Hayes!" I open my eyes and see Grayson looking at me with a smile. He holds his hand out and I take it as my hearing comes back. I hear cheering going on as I notice the color of the confetti and smile.

"Bro!" I heard Ethan say and I'm lifted off my feet and I'm put in the air by my teammates. I look around the stadium and smile as I notice everyone coming down from the stands. I see the big trophy being made over my way and it is soon passed to me. I raise the trophy in the air and the crowd goes wild.

I try my best to spot both Jacob and Charlotte. Jacob is going to give a performance with Shawn. Nash says I will be holding some things for Jacob as he performs with Shawn. I think the plan is a great one.

I let the win sink in and wait for Char to reach us. I look into the crowd and find her smiling at me. I am let down and I pass the trophy over to my teammates. Charlotte runs into my arms and hugs me tightly.

"I'm so proud of you guys!" She says excitedly as Grayson comes up to us and smiles.

"Thank you," I say to her as I take my helmet off. Grayson easily takes it away from me so I can hold onto my shaft and also hold Char. I'm being congratulated from every direction. I see Cameron and Nash coming my way. I nod as I help Charlotte over to the bench by where my water is.

"We have a surprise for you," I say to her ear and we hear the mic coming on. Everyone on the team is on board with this including my family, Chars family and also Jacob's mother and sister.

"Me?" She asks confusingly. I smile and nod as my teammates has told everyone to stand around the field and sound the sound of a guitar and drums start to play. I sat her down on the bench as Grayson calls me over. Once I make my way through the team, I see Shawn with his Guitar and hand less mic and Jacob with his mic.

The team is still blocking Char from the view as the light in the stadium goes off. Then a light shines on Jacob. Shawn stood beside him in the center of the stadium. I am handed a few things and I wait as the team makes two lines to form an aisle.

I begin to sing Ed Sheeran's song 'Thinking Out Loud' as Charlotte comes into my view and she looks towards me in wonder. She smiles as I continue to sing. Shawn joins in from time to time and I'd keep my eyes on hers the whole time.

"So honey now
Take me into your loving arms
Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars
Place your head on my beating heart
I'm thinking out loud
Maybe we found love right where we are," I sang to her and she slowly stands.

I smile and guesture for her to come over. Slowly she does as I continue to sing to her.

"I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways
Maybe it's all part of a plan
I'll just keep on making the same mistakes
Hoping that you'll understand." I watch her curious face and I notice her mouth slightly parted. Everyone around the stadium are using their flashlights and are swaying back and forth.

"Oh maybe we found love right where we are
And we found love right where we are," I finish. The stadium erupts into another loud applause as I slowly walk over to her and she stops right in front of me.

"You did this for me?" She asks softy.

"With the help of everyone here, yes."

"I loved the performance."

"I'm glad you did," I say nervously and take the mic off so my voice doesn't echo the stadium. "I wanted to tell you something."

"You have my full attention Whitesides," she laughs lightly and she takes my hand. I smile and I hear small chuckles from the guys.

"I really like you Char," I start and I look down at her hands. "The last week two weeks now with you, just being around you and being able to show my feelings towards you. It has been amazing to me and I love taking you on dates."

"I loved going on dates and spending time with you too. They've been amazing to me."

"You've been a brave girl this past year Charlotte. Seeing you grow as a person this year has made me realized how much I fallen in love with you. I know it may be early to say that, but I wanted you to know how much you mean to me. Never do I never intentionally mean to hurt you in anyway. I want to start our new chapter when you go off to college and go off to med school. I want to be apart of your future."

"Even though gymnastics is not really my interest anymore," She says slowly and my eyes widens in shock. I didn't know about this. She was just getting back into it. I thought maybe she wanted to get back into gymnastics. She made her final decision.

"I thought you wanted to try?"

"I agreed to help assist the team, but I decided I didn't want to get back into it to compete. It's really hard for me," she says softly.

"I'm so proud of you Char," I say softly to her and bring a hand to her waist. "You're so brave and always making the hardest decisions."

"You bring the best out in me." The crowd awes and see Chars cheeks blushing. "What is the special occasion for performing?"

Here we go.

"I was wandering Charlotte... if you'd officially be my girlfriend?"
