Aquiver ~5
•Jacob Whitesides•
"What is your problem?" I ask and send Hayes a glare. Why would he yell at her? She's probably upset. "Why would you even yell at her?"
"She just up and left at some point. She could have called or texted someone."
"She could have forgotten or maybe her phone was on silent."
"That's not even an excuse. What is wrong with her?"
"She's your girlfriend! You shouldn't be talking about her like that or even be making her feel bad."
"Jacob, she literally just left and didn't tell us scaring all of us. Do you honestly think this is okay?"
"She's your girlfriend. You know she had it rough. Cut her some slack."
"So she gets to be off the hook and I don't? That's not fair. I have my brother up my tail making sure I'm always around her."
"Shouldn't you want to be around her?" I look at Hayes and he looks aggravated. "Are you going to apologize to her?"
"No." I frown slightly and turn away. What is his problem?
~Four hours later~
Me: Char, I'm here. Which store are you and Aaron at?
I enter the mall and look around wondering what Char and Aaron have been doing for the past few hours after their breakfast. Char texted me earlier, apologizing frantically. I felt really bad and told her it was fine. I asked her if she wanted to hangout today and she invited me to meet them at the mall. Here we are.
Char responds in moments.
Bestfran❤: We are at the barnes & nobles by Starbucks
I make my way in the direction of the bookstore and reach there in no time. I walk into the big entrance and look at the shelves of books. Charlotte loves being in here. She can be in here all day. She would spend it roaming around and looking at a variety of books.
I make my way over towards the left side corner of Barnes & Noble and look for Charlotte or Aaron. I past a few shelves and I look in the sitting area where I see the both of them. I walk up to them and Aaron is the first one to see me. He smiles as Char looks up and I notice how unhappy she looks.
"Hey guys," I smile. "Did you guys get anything here?"
"I thought we were," Aaron shrugs. "Turns out Char didn't want anything."
"Oh," I make an 'o' shape with my mouth. "Can I talk to Char for a moment?" I turn towards her. "We can go for a walk if you'd like." She nods and stands. Aaron excuses himself to go to the bathroom. I link arms with her.
"How are you?" She asks me.
"I should be asking you that. Char... Hayes shouldn't have yelled at you like that." We reach an isle where no one stood and she stops. She unlinks our arms and looks towards the ground.
"It was my fault."
"Nothing's your fault. You had a right to go out when you wanted to. You just forgot to mention to Cam that you were out. They just thought you were there the whole time." She shrugs and I take her hand gently.
"I feel like I'm a terrible girlfriend to him," She says softly.
"No... you're not terrible at all. If anything, Hayes should be grateful to have a wonderful girlfriend like you."
"It doesn't seem like it," she sighs sadly. I haven't seen her like this in a while. This is new.
"Well I'm sure he cares a lot about you and with senior year about to end, he'll come around. I'm sure he has planned something amazing for you two for Ball and for the weekend."
"Oh... uh.. yeah. Maybe." I smile knowing I'm getting her to think positive.
"So, how about we cheer you up? We can spend the day here if you'd like?"
"Really?" She looks up with a look of wonder. "Aaron wouldn't wa-"
"Then he can leave. You and me will be staying here going on an adventure." She smiles slightly and walks over to me. She wraps her arms around me.
"Okay."
"Good. I'd like you to be happy and stress free as possible. We can read books together."
"That sounds great Jacob," she smiles.
"We can also act some of it out."
"I'd love that. That sounds so much fun!" Her cheery shelf is back and I smile to myself. I lead her over to the comics section first as we wait for Aaron to come back.
~Six hours later~
"I'm surprised my brother stayed," Char says to me as she was putting her arms around Aaron and I. We are now walking out of the bookstore. It was a fun time and Charlotte had a great time. She smiles and talks to the both of us as we decide to eat at Hibachi.
"I had a great time," Aaron spoke. "Never thought I'd ever spend that much time in a bookstore before. It's kinda relaxing."
"I told you it was fun," she smiles and I mentally smile to myself. I still think she is the prettiest girl I've ever met. She's talented, smart, kind hearted and she has it all. I'm not sure what's going on with Hayes, but I hope he changes.
As much as I like her, I can't have her. She's with Hayes and that's what makes her happy. I don't understand what happened to Hayes. How long has this been going on? Has Char been going through this secretly for months? All of these questions I want to ask her, but maybe she's not ready to tell me. I'm here to support her no matter what happens.
"Jacob?" I look towards Char. "You okay?"
"Oh, yeah. I was just thinking," I smile.
"So, are we getting some sushi?" Aaron asks
"That sounds gr-" I stop mid sentence. "Wait, but Chars allergic."
"It's okay," She says. "You guys can still have sushi. I already have something in mind that I can eat there." Aaron nods his head and I gave a weak smile. I forgot she can't have seafood.
