Chapter Four 'Accident!'

Athena was beyond nervous that day.
Something just wasn't sitting right with her. She had a feeling this deal was going to go horribly wrong. Jack had tried to comfort his wife as best as he could be nothing was working.

Athena was terrified for her husband. He was too sweet and innocent to take on this amount of danger and if Batman caught him, god knows what he'd do. Jack wouldn't survive in prison, they'd eat him up. If his little wife terrified him, then everybody else would.

How would she explain this to their families?!
'Oh Jack couldn't be here tonight, Batman locked him up for making dodgy deals!'
She'd never hear the end of it!

'Baby you need to eat something' Jack exclaimed gently as they sat down for lunch.
He had watched his wife stare into her food for the last 10 minutes and was extremely worried for her.
She was too deep into her thoughts that she didn't even hear him speak.

'ATHENA!' He roared finally snapping her from her daze.
'What's wrong jack?' Athena frowned as she looked at Jack in shock.
'I was just saying you need to eat my love' he replied gently.
'Oh, I'm not hungry' she whispered looking down.
'Stop over thinking doll face, it's going to be fine!' Jack sighed before cursing inwardly as he watched her little face twist with rage, her chocolate eyes switching to black.

'Over thinking! Are you serious Jack?! I'm losing my mind with worry here and you just don't give a damn!' Athena snarled, tears brimming her eyes.
'Oh sweetheart don't cry please! I do care you know I do. I just want to make sure you're alright before I leave. If I know you're in a state I won't be able to focus! You are the world to me, my queen!' Jack cooed standing up and walking over to his sobbing wife.

'I'm just so scared Jack! Something isn't right, I don't feel good about this deal' Athena confessed, frantically trying to wipe her tears.
'Shhh come here my love' Jack whispered pulling her into his arms on the kitchen floor.
'Jack please don't go, stay here with me' she choked desperately clutching onto him.
'Ssshhh listen! I'm going and everything will go smoothly. I will be home in the morning and we can just pack up and leave for a while. We will go visit our families and forget everything. Does that sound good?' He hummed, gently rocking her.

'I like that idea!' Athena nodded, her sobs now little sniffles.
'Good! Now show me that beautiful smile' he demanded playfully as he took hold of her chin and brought her face up to his.
Letting out a giggle, she gave her husband the biggest smile she could muster.
'That's my girl!' He grinned.

'I love you Jack!' She sniffled.
'I love you too honey!' He smiled before placing his lips on hers.

Six hours later
Athena's POV
'Baby it's time to go, come and see me out!' Jack smiled gently pulling me up from the couch and walking towards our door.
I had never been more terrified in my whole life.
I just wanted him to stay at home where it was safe.
'Jack be careful please my love, I wouldn't suit being a widow' I joked to hide how truly scared I was.
'I always am dollface! You in black, oh no that wouldn't do' he chuckled pulling me to his chest.
'I love you so much Jack Napier' I whimpered, gripping onto the front of his shirt.
'And I love you Athena Napier, never forget that!' He whispered.
I held onto him for dear life as he smashed our lips together.

After a few moments he pulled away and gently stroked my cheek.
'Bye for now my love' he purred before placing a long kiss on my forehead.
'Bye for now' I whispered finally letting go of him.
I watched in tears as he walked down our garden path and climbed into the car.

Taking a deep breath I placed a smile on my face and waved at him as he started the car and drove off into the night.
Closing the front door I was quick to break down.
Something wasn't right!
I couldn't take the sick feeling inside me!
'Please let him be safe' I sobbed clasping my hands together.
I had never prayed in my life but right now I needed guidance in my life otherwise I would fall.

Jack sprinted up the steps of ACE chemicals as fast as he could, the money briefcase held tightly within his grasp.
Looking behind him he felt sheer panic run through him.
Batman was gaining on him quickly!
Everyone else had managed to escape but him.
Jack needed this money for him and Athena.
It was going to help them start their own family and let them live the perfect married life.
If he lost it, he lost everything!

'Stop where you are Jack Napier!' Batman demanded angrily.
He wouldn't stop, he couldn't!
As his feet pounded up the steps Jack realised he was soon running out of places go. They would reach the top of this building within a matter of minutes and then where would he hide.
Athena was right, he wasn't made for this kind of life!
He wish he had never got involved with all this and instead stayed at home with her.

Shit!
They had finally reached the top!
There was no where to run!
What the fuck was he going to do?!
Jacks mind raced as his heart pounded through his ear drums.
He quickly spun around and watched as Batman joined him on the platform.
'Jack!' Batman grumbled, holding his hands up in a sign of peace.
'No! Go away! Go away!' Jack panted as he took frantic steps back.
'Calm down Jack, give me the briefcase and everything will be fine' Batman tried to reason but Jack wasn't having any of it.
'No! I need it! You can't have it, go away!' He cried as he continued to walk backwards unaware of the approaching edge.
'Come away from the edge son!' Batman urged not wanting the man to fall to his death.
'YOU CAN'T HAVE IT!' Jack screamed.

Before Jack had time to react Batman had leaped forwards and was now wrestling the briefcase from his hands.
'NO!' Jack cried trying his best to win the losing battle.
'GIVE ME IT!' Batman roared giving Jack a shove.
The force made Jack let go of the case and his arms wriggled violently as he went flying back over.
The shove was too strong, he couldn't regain his balance!
Jack screamed in terror as his feet slipped off the edge of the platform and he went barrelling down to the hidden depths below.........................
