{Riley's P.O.V}
The next morning, I awoke from another one of my many nightmares screaming. I laid down on my pillow trying to calm down my breathing and wiping away the stray tears. I thought back to the dream but quickly decided against it as I didn't want to relive the nightmares again. After I got my breathing under control, I took in my surroundings. I was confused at first as to where I was but then remembered that I had spent the night at the Gold's. That's when everything came rushing back to me, River coming home drunk and almost kissing me. I touched my lips as the thought occurred to me that River was almost inches away from kissing me last night, it was terrifying. Now sure I've kissed guys before but the look he had in his eyes was almost murderous, they glistened with a dangerous aura, and that's was scared me the most.
I got out of the warmth of the comforter and quickly ran towards the dresser to grab my oversized hoodie as last night I was so upset I fell asleep in my sports bra. I wrap myself up into the comfy material and headed for the bathroom door. After brushing my teeth and running my fingers through my hair I went downstairs to check for something to eat. As I entered the kitchen I noticed only Lucy was up and awake working away in the kitchen.
"Morning." I say as a yawn escaped through my lips. She looked up at me and gave me warm smile. "Morning sweetheart, are you hungry?" as if on cue my stomach let out a low rumble. Lucy laughed at that, "I'm guessing so, here." she said passing me a plate of waffles. I gave her a grateful smile before plucking one onto the plate in front of me.
"So how was last night being alone?" She asked me. I shrugged not really knowing what to say, "It was okay, we played games and watch movies, then I put the kids to bed. I had fun just still really tired, it was a long night." I tell her honestly.
"River came home last night." she said catching me off guard after a few minutes of silence. I looked up at her thinking that she figured out what had happened, but realized that she was only stating that the boy had returned home finally and a look of relief washed over her features. "Yea I know. He came in pretty late. Woke me up." I lied. She nodded her head in understanding and went back to the job at hand.
"Morning Lucy." Came a deep voice. I froze in my spot as I recognize who the voice belonged to. I shoved a forkful of waffles in my mouth and avoided any eye contact with him. From the corner of my eye I saw him walking towards the coffee maker, clutching his probably sore head, and grab the pot and poured himself a cup of coffee. He turned around after that, and I could see that he was tired and well hungover from the previous night. His hair was a mess and I could just make out the big bags under his eyes.
"You kids eat up, I'm just gonna go check up on the other two sleepyheads." Lucy told us wiping her hands on her apron and gave River a look of concern before walking out the kitchen. River nodded his head, as my eyes widen in fear as I was gunna be alone with River...again. I hear Lucy walk up the stairs, leaving River and I in the awkward quietness. A few seconds passed by, when I broke the silence. "You know, you shouldn't be drinking coffee." I quickly shut myself up as he glared over at me and said, "Thanks for that information, but I don't give a shit." I nodded my head for no apparent reason and looked down at my feet. Not being able to stay in the room with him any longer, I got up and brought my plate to the sink. After that I tried to make my escape towards the door to go and get Benji so that we could get the heck out of this place. But before I could make it out the kitchen, River called my name. "Riley?"
Turning around I looked at him fully now. He was looking at me, with a deep emotion I couldn't quite place, the only emotions I could decipher was anger and frustration, as well as an apologetic look on his face. I was confused for a second before he answered my thoughts.
"Uh, about last night," he started, clearing his throat, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen. I wasn't myself and was definitely not in my right state of mind." he finished. I smiled at him in appreciation as he was apologizing for what happen last night. "It's okay, I appreciate your apology." I say looking down at my feet. I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and bit my lip, something I did when I was feeling anxious. "GODDAMMIT! Stop doing that!" he yelled out loud all of a sudden. I looked up slightly confused. I frowned.
