Chapter 22: I need time to think

Riley's P. O. V

"Hey Sarah it's Riley."

"Oh Riley, hi honey how are you?" Her sweet voice said through the phone.

"I'm good. How are you?"

"I'm good hun. Is everything okay?" She asks sounding concerned.
"Oh yea. I was just calling to let you know that I'm going to be taking a temporary leave of absence."

"Oh hun of course, are you sure everything is okay? Is something wrong?" She asks.

"Yea. I just need to get things ready for school for my brother and I. But once I get back into the swing of things at school I can come back and help out again." I tell her.

"Of course sweetheart. Good luck with school and everything. You're still okay for tonight right?" She asks.

"Oh yea. I'm still able to come tonight."
"Okay perfect. I will see you tonight then!"
"See you tonight. Thank you." I tell her with a small smile.
"Bye hun." She says one last time before we both hung up the phone.

I sigh as I took a seat on my bed. It had been a week and half since the whole kiss with River. I still couldn't process why he kissed me, why I kissed him back and why I didn't really hate it as much as I should have. I haven't seen or spoken to River since then but I was glad I hadn't cause I needed time to think about everything.

During the week I had spent time with Isabella, Colten and my mom and Benji. But I still couldn't get River out of my mind. There was absolutely no way that I had feelings for this guy. Plus my relationship with Colten was growing. We weren't dating but there was definitely something there. I think?

Colten has taken me out a few times but I was never in my right state of mind and I think Colten could sense I wasn't acting like myself. He kept quiet though.

Running a hand down my face, I groaned. Getting up I started packing my things to head over to the Golds.

"Hey Riles! Are you coming home tonight?" Benji says walking into my room.

"Um I think I'll be coming hone tomorrow morning. Why what's up buddy?"

"Do you think tomorrow we can go see mommy?" He asks jumping up and down in excitement.

"Sure once I get home and when your home from auntie Nic's we can head on over." I tell him with a laugh.

"Okay yay!" He says jumping up and down again as he ran out of my room.
"Make sure your overnight bag is ready!" I yell out

"Okay!" I heard him yell back.
Smiling to myself, I continued packing my bag.

3 hours later

I stood in front of the Golds residence. I really hoped I wouldn't see River or he wasn't home. I was not ready to face him. I didn't have the energy to talk about what happened between us. I gave a sigh and made my way to the front door. With one last deep breath I rang the doorbell. The door opened to reveal Scarlett.

"Riley!!" She yells wrapping her arms around my waist.

"Hey Scarlett. I haven't seen you in so long. How are you?" I ask her.

"Good! I really missed you." She says grabbing my hand and guiding me through the house.

"I missed you too. What did you want to do tonight?" I ask her. It was 7pm and the house was quiet. A little too quiet. Sara had already left and so did James from the looks of it. I heard some clinking coming from the kitchen assuming that Lucy was still here. As for River, I didn't know where he was. He could have been upstairs or not even in the house. I had hope for the latter.
