Riley's P. O. V

I was up the next morning with a smile on my face. I was in the kitchen cooking breakfast for Benji and me when the landline started to ring. I licked the pancake mix off of my fingers and wiped them before picking up the phone.

"Hello?"
"Hi may I please speak with Ms. Riley Mackenzie?" The person on the other end says.

"Yes this is she speaking." I say.

"Hi Ms. Mackenzie, this is Doctor Karlin at the Miliken Shoue hospital. I'm calling with some not so great news regarding your mother. I'm afraid that last night your mother passed away in her sleep. I'm so sorry." I dropped the phone in shock. I couldn't believe it, when Benji and I went over to the hospital the day before she was smiling and laughing along with us.

Flashback...

"Oh my god Benji, that's too funny!" I yell laughing along with Benji and my mother.

"Oh both your lives seem so crazy but I'm happy your living your lives and having fun." My mom says smiling over at us.

"But you'll be back with us real soon to join in on the craziness." I tell her as she gives me a small smile.
"You two should get going. It's getting late and they are coming to bring me my meds soon." I nodded my head and Benji and I gave her a kiss goodbye. Before I could leave she called out my name.

"Yea mom?"

"Sweetheart you'll be okay, I promise you. I'm so proud of you both and I'm happy about you and River. And your life will be a long and happy one and you'll get through every bump in the road life throws at you." I smile over at her and nod my head.

"Thank you mom, I love you. I'll see you soon."

"I love you both so much. Get home safely." I smile one last time before I left the room.

End of flashback.

I covered my mouth, realizing that she had said that because she knew she wouldn't make it. I quickly picked up the phone and hang up. My lip begins to quiver and I turn around running out of the kitchen and up to my room. Slamming the door shut and leaning against it, I let out a sob as I replayed everything in my head.

"You'll be okay, I promise." I sob again.

"She passed away in her sleep last night." I walk slowly to the middle of my room then stop.

"I love you both."

I scream as more tears rolled down my face. I started grabbing things and throwing them everywhere in my room. I ended up tripping over a sweater on the floor and fell to my knees sobbing hopelessly.

"Riles, are you okay?" I look up to see Benji in the doorway. I let another few tears fall.

"Mommy is gone Benji." I sob. I see his bottom lip quiver as a tear rolled down his cheek.

"Come here." I tell him. He comes towards me and I hug him.

"It's okay, we'll be okay." I cried.

We ended up sitting in my room for a few hours until Benji cried himself to sleep. I spent most of the time silently crying and staring at nothing in particular. After about another hour of grieving, I decided to bring Benji to bed. Tucking him in and giving him a kiss on the forehead, I walked out closing the door behind me. My phone buzzed signalling a text. I take my phone out and saw that it was a text from River. I ignored it before heading downstairs. I ordered a pizza and clicked through the channels just letting out tears.
