The Prophecy- Book 1

Chapter Five

I heard the first blast hit as I ran back toward the base. It shook the ground under my feet. As I got closer I could hear shouting from the soldiers who were trying to evacuate the base.

Finally, entering the village I saw the chaos. People were running around. Some women caring their babies screaming in fear. When under an attack everyone had to run to the bomb shelter that was built underground, but all I saw were people running back and forth not sure exactly what to do.

So, I started shouting, "Run to the bomb Shelter!" As I hurried through the crowd trying to find a face I recognized.

Looking up I saw another missile heading towards us, but it blew up before it touched ground. We were momentarily protected by a force shield.

I ran through the crowd of rushing people, and screaming babies, looking for Angel. Still shouting. I did not even know who was attacking us, how stupid of me. I was lost in my self-pity, I was not even thinking that something like this would happen.

"Ashlynn!" I turned to see Avril running towards me. I felt relief that she was ok. "I have been looking everywhere for you. We have to go now..." She said when she reached me, and she grabbed my hand and started pulling me to the hanger, where we keep our all of air and space crafts.

Surprised, I allowed her to pull me. What she said slowly sunk in. This made no sense. Were they evacuating the base? "Where are we going? What's going on?" I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.

"Angel will explain when we get to the ship. But we have to go NOW!" Avril grabbed my arm, and this time I followed. We ran past where the first missile hit. A woman in on her knees in front of a demolished building crying. I faintly heard her call out her babies.

I felt sick thinking about who might have been killed in the blast. Feeling the sudden urge to stop and comfort the women. But I forced myself to keep moving, there is nothing I can do her for now, I reasoned.

Finally, we made it to the hanger. Avril began entering the code. My eyes wandered to the blasts damage. I saw a body lying on the ground. It was one of the terrible trio, Cassie. Half of her body was mangled and a leg missing. I saw her hand move. My eyes widened in horror realizing she was still alive. I looked away. My stomach turning.

The door to hanger slid opened, and we rushed in. I leaned against the door and slowly slid down, rubbing my eyes trying to get the images out.

Avril put her hand on my shoulder. How could she be so strong, after what we just saw. All those people dead. Cassie's body lying there, the women crying over her dead children. It was more than I could handle.

Being a soldier in training I had read about these things in detail, but seeing it was completely different. Those people were innocent. Who would just start firing on them like that?

Suddenly I felt strong arms wrap around me and lift me. I peeked up and saw Angel. He was carrying me towards a large spacecraft.

"What is going on Angel? Why are we being attacked?" I cried my voice cracking. I weakly tried to get out of his arms.

"They are the Emperor's men, long story short, he has found you and believes you're a threat." He said grimly. Before I could say anything, he continued, "Which means we have a spy amongst us. Someone leaked the news and reported it to him. We are going to have to watch what we say and do, and hope we can fish them out. For now, though we must leave the planet right now, or else our whole planet will be in danger." Then he added with some thought, "and if you are the princess that will save us then you have to be protected at all costs."
