Just making it to Avril's house. Who was out on the porch reading a book, she looked up, and grinned as she saw me. "Hey girl, I thought you had training?"

Finally getting to her step I smiled as I leaned on the wall to catch my breath, I managed to reply, "I... did...Angel...let...me...out...early."

She cocked her head in confusion. "Since when does he let you out early? Hold on I will be right back with some water for you." And like that she disappeared into her house. She came back a couple of minutes later with a large cup full of water.

I took it gratefully and gulped the contents down. Puffing out my chest I recounted the fight with Angel.

"You really beat him." She said grinning. "That's so awesome. Angel never lets his guard down."

My grin grew even wider. "I know. It felt good. But then he acted all weird and let me go early."

She frowned, "that's weird. Maybe he was hurt he lost to a girl."

Frowning I cupped my chin with my hand in thought. "I don't know, he looked more thoughtful than annoyed." I shrugged my shoulders, deciding to ask him later. "So, what are you reading?" I inquired, sitting down and picking up her tablet.

She smiled knowing I was changing the subject. "Well happy birthday girl." She said as she jumped up and gave me a hug. Then she stood back, "I am reading a book about a three-way romance. One guy is good, and the other is a bad boy. And the girl must basically choose who she wants to be with. Though you know she has to go through some other issues as well."

"You always read those types of books." I groaned and rolled my eyes. "Thanks for the birthday though."

"Whatever, I have caught you reading them too." We both giggled.

I sat down beside her and picked up the tablet. "So, which side are you on?" I questioned. "Good boy, or bad boy?"

She fanned herself, "it really depends on if the bad boy is willing to change himself for the girl. But honestly I kind of root for the good guy. I always feel like the bad boy mistreats the girl and she deserves to be with a guy that will treat her right."

"So, true." I say laughing. "But the bad boy is always so much more passionate. It makes a girl's heart melt the way he changes for the girl."

"You read anything good lately?" She asked me chuckling.

"Yeah several books actually. I have been really into the history of our planet when the aliens invaded, and space in general." I told her.

"Yes, cause you want to go on great space adventures right." She said.

"Yes, you know it's my dream. I would do anything to be able to fly around in space, on a grand adventure. Saving the Universe."

Aliens gave us the knowledge to greatly expand our technology, and we can even travel the universe.

"You remember reading about bullets and thinking how bizarre." I said laughing out loud.

Now our guns are far more powerful, but military can have them. Before the alien's, photonic weaponry had just been a dream.

She joined me in laughter. "Yeah we were so dumb back then. Now it seems as though we can't even remember the way things were before the aliens arrived it's been so long."

I was about to continue our discussion, tell I noticed her glaring out on the street. I turned to look. There were three girls about my age walking by. They stopped and waved. Avril just crossed her arms. I gave a light wave, not wanting to look to interested, but not wanting to be rude.

Giving a more enthusiastic wave to Angel as he came waltzing up the porch steps. We were both surprised to see him. I guess he finished whatever he needed to do.

"How are you Angel?" Avril smiled at him.

"I am good, how about you Avril? Heard your training has been going well, and your almost to the third tier already, congratulations."

She blushed, "Thanks Angel."

He had that effect on the girls. I even had a crush on him for a while. But I realized he probably just saw me as a sister, and laid it rest.

"Hello Angel." A highly fake feminine voice shouted. We all turned to see the terrible trio walk up. That was Avril's nickname for them. They often walk around thinking they were better than everyone else. Avril is always calling them stuck up snobs.

Angel gave them a wave, and leaned over the guardrail of the porch to look at them. He obviously enjoyed the attention. I just rolled my eyes. What guy wouldn't enjoy the attention of three pretty girls fawning over them?

I went to sit next to Avril, watching the vomit worthy scene unravel.

Angel gave his dimpled smile, "So how have you ladies been? I have not seen you for a few days?"

"Oh, we have been around." The leader of them said as she twisted a strand of red hair flirtatiously in her fingers. Then she flipped it over her shoulder. "So how has training been. Your muscles look bigger?" She said, reaching up and running a delicately pedicured hand up his bicep as if to emphasize.

I felt my own eyes look at his muscles they looked the same to me.

Then, I heard Angel say, "hey ladies as much as I love spending time with you I need to discuss something with Ash. You understand, don't you?"

They all gave me quick glances. Then looked back to Angel, "oh of course. Call me sometime." the leader said over her shoulder, and the other girls giggled, and sauntered away.

Then he abruptly turned to me. "Ash the General wants to have a word with you." He turned to Avril, "You can come as well."

"What does he want?" I questioned suspiciously. The General wanted to speak to you if he had a mission for you or you were in big trouble. Since no one ever got missions here, I doubted it was that. "I did not do anything wrong!"

"No, it's not that I can assure you." Angel stated. He was serious which was strange for him, he was always smiling and playful. His brown eyes betrayed nothing though.

"Does he have a mission then?" Questioned Avril. Her curiosity peaked at the prospect.

"Just follow me." And with that he turned on his heal in a very military fashion and began walking toward the general's office.

Avril and I looked at each other, we shrugged, but followed.
