So, this isn't a rant that's gonna say "L shouldn't have died! He was the best character! I'm not watching/reading death note anymore!1!!1"
It's gonna be more about how lots Death Note fans dropped the series after L's death.
Death Note drew attention to itself by being about the villain. It's a show/book where you don't know which side to choose.
It was amazingly executed to where you can't decide if Light is good or bad, but as you get farther on, you can eventually decide for yourself.
The pacing was well made, the way L tracked Kira down was believable. He didn't know for sure who it was, be he knew where he was. When he met Light, he didn't quickly say "he's Kira". He slowly got more evidence to prove who was Kira, but he was just a tad to slow.
But, after L's death, things started going down hill.
Two new people became L's replacements, Near and Mellow.
They were just two of L, each being the two extreme versions of L's personality.
Near (as far as I know) was extremely anti-social. Mellow (as far as I know) was kinda crazy, mostly for his want to become better than L was.
Light became more stealthy, but Near was just unbelievably smart. As in actually not believably smart. Sure, they gave evidence to how they knew, but if this was real, Near wouldn't be that smart.
L basically gave DN pacing, and when he died, that pacing was gone.
So, I stopped reading.
