The Underworld

"I freaking love my curls." I looked at myself in the mirror as I got ready for the day.

"Yes. You've told us. Many times." Mary said.

I ignored Mary's annoyed tone of voice and continued to wiggle my head in front of the mirror. "In fact, I feel like a queen."

"You are a queen, Anji." Mary tied her hair back in a ponytail. "In fact, why don't I let you be queen for a day?"

I gave her a questioning glance. She tossed me the keys to the Underworld.

"I need a break, it's been a few centuries since I've gotten one." She answered.

"I- um- okay-" I didn't know what to say. Giving me control of the Underworld was a big deal. Everything could fall apart of not handled correctly. I'm surprised Mary trusted me that much. Or she could have found my glitter stash and accidentally inhaled some.

"You need my blood to open up the gates. I'll open them for you. It should last a day." Mary cleaned her glasses and turned towards me. "Shall we?"

Still slightly stunned, I followed her towards the Underworld Elevator that went underground to the gates. She opened them with a clang.

"Here you go. Don't make it explode, it's kinda my life. Have fun! If you have any questions just text me." She tossed me the keys and went to the elevator.

"Uh... have fun!" I called after her.

She waved and left.

The minute I walked in the Underworld, I noticed it was incredibly gloomy. No wonder Mary was stressed so much. I had to make a few changes. I wiggled my fingers and made the walls pink.

"Perfect!" I smiled. I was going to have fun.

I little while later, I heard whimpering from the room next to me. Cerberus was pawing at the ground and looking upset.

"Aw Ceb, what's wrong?" I asked. He looked lonely, all three heads. He sadly barked.

"You must be tired. How many centuries have you been working? You deserve a break, just like Mary." There was nothing to guard right now, so no harm was going to be done. I released him from his chains and tosses a red ball. "Go get it, Ceb!"

After a while, my arm grew tired from the constant throwing. "I'll be back, Ceb. I have to check on everything else." I threw the ball, and it landed in the woods that lay behind the gates.

The woods were ominous, spooky. They hadn't been affected by my pink spells. I had the urge to go to it, and see what was in it, but I had enough experience to know spooky, eerie woods were not something to investigate without backup. Maybe I'd return later.

I walked to what I assumed would be Mary's office. The door was black, and locked shut. With a wave of my hands, I opened.

Please open me! A note was placed on a desk with great care. It had an arrow on it, pointing to the drawer under it. Obeying the note, I opened it, letting a large gust of wind out with it.

I blinked. What had that been about? I shrugged it off. Maybe a task Mary wanted me to complete.

A few hours later, Mary walked in the Underworld to check on me. I couldn't wait to see her reaction to my changes!

She walked through the gates. Her jaw dropped, and she shrieked.

"What have you done?!" She yelled.

"I... I thought-"

"It's pink! The Underworld is PINK! Why?!"

"I thought it would make the place a bit more happy..."
