I woke up, inhaling a deep breath and pushing my back off the bed. I panicky looked around, but it was as if I were looking through a fog. I could hear voices but they were distant and I couldn't even understand what were they saying.
I touched my chest, only to feel the cold scales, accidently slicing my finger. I looked down and let out a panicked scream when I saw them. They were jet black, not even reflecting the light, and their sharpness could shame a knight's sword. They covered the area where I was injured starting from the neck, or the neck bones to be exact, till my hip bones, two giant lines. As if someone dug two knives and sliced my skin till the bottom. A large area with scales was the place were my heart was supposed to be.
Suddenly I felt hands pushing me back down on the bed, yelling at me, but I still couldn't understand them, probably the only thing that I could make out was a male voice saying, "Oh, you're so gonna hate me for this" right after I had the sensation that someone had just punched me.
That helped though.
My vision slowly cleared up and the first thing I saw was a man standing right next to me, shaking his hand violently in pain. His golden blond hair moved gently with every move he made, brushing lightly on his shoulders. When he looked at me, all that I could see what clear confusion on his green eyes.
Next to him I saw Lily, holding a cup of water. I gladly took it from her and drank all of it as if I haven't had water in days.
"Wow, that surprisingly worked." She said and narrowed her eyes at the man who hit me.
"If it worked, then you have no right of complaining." He said and then looked at me, "How're you doing?"
"Who? Me?" I asked and looked at both sides.
"No, I'm talking about the wall behind you." He said and rolled his eyes. "Yes, you."
"Oh, I'm fine..I think so?" I said while rubbing my cheek.
"See? Totally in good shape." He said and looked at Lily with a smirk on his face.
"Yeah." She only said at him and then went closer to me. She touched on of the scales and tries to pull it, but it didn't fudge. She frowned and looked at me. "Do you have any clue what this is?"
"If he knew, he wouldn't scream like a total lunatic." The blond said.
"Vash, if you could just be quiet for 5 mins I'll be absolutely grateful." Lily said a little bit harshly, but I could still see the smile on her face. Hmm, so his name is Vash.
Oh, her brother! He's back. Now that I think about it, they do look kinda similar in a way, mainly in presence but not as siblings.
"Do you have any clue what this is?" She asked with the softest and most innocent voice I ever heard. "Does it hurt?"
"It doesn't hurt, and the only clue I have of this is..." I wanted to continue, to tell her about the dream, but something was stopping me. Every time I tried, a strange pulse went through my body. "Nothing." I later said as she was waiting for something, but ended up disappoint.
"You had something?" She said turning towards her brother.
"Hmm, what?" He exclaimed, peeking his head from the door. He went in, holding a jar of some leaves.
"You said something about this. I wanna know more."
"All I said is that he's turning in Death. I only read it and it says that once in every I-don't-know-how-much years, a human, or one of use is turned into Death. Some people here even call it the Ragnorak."
"As the dragon?!" Lily suddenly cut him off.
"Yes, just like that." He said, pointing his chin slightly at me. "Its not that big of a deal to be honest, all I know that Death just decides to possess a body and voalà, a dragon appears, but don't worry, no body survived once the transformation. All cases ended up with death a little bit after the wing sockets start forming."
"So, he's gonna die?" She asked in disbelief.
"Yup." Vash said, popping the last 'p'.
"I'm going to die." I repeated.
