Two days have passed since we left the town and we still didn't encounter any of Gupta's brothers. I didn't find any leads, presences or even smell, as if they were never here.
Elizabeta and I agreed on returning to the village for the sake of Ivan. At this point Mathias and Lukas can wait, my will died a little bit after my memories returned but unfortunately it still lingers to me like some leach.
"Do you have any theories on what master was capable of?" Suddenly asked Elizabeta.
I looked towards her, her face relaxed and her eyes kind of nostalgic, as if she was remembering the past that would never come.
"I'm not sure... Maybe something similar to mine?" I answered and stared towards the never-ending sand.
"Nah, that's not it." Elizabeta sighed and adjusted Ivan to her other shoulder. "My memories might be faint but I remember your gift was first of its kind. That's why you were chosen as the next leader, well... You barely got there if it wasn't for the other guy."
"What other guy?" I asked and raised my eyebrow in confusion.
"I don't remember his face but I sure do remember his ability." Elizabeta stopped walking and looked towards the dawn. "While you could bring death to whomever you wanted, he could bring back the dead. You two were complete opposites, yet you two worked so well in a team." She raised her shoulders and continued to walk. "While you were the silent type, he was the one to quickly make friends, he was quite outgoing unlike you. You were calm and collected while he gave in to his feelings too easily. That's why you were chosen, together with the fact that they considered your ability to be way better suited to our clan."
"Huh, you seem to remember quite a lot." I said and laughed quietly.
"Only bits and fragments. What do you remember?"
I tilted my head to one side, trying to collect my thoughts. "Well, one thing I remember clearly is the time Lukas and Matthias trapped me in this state of body when they captured me. I can't transform like before." I said and touched the scales underneath my shirt. "By the way, what was that absurd story Vash was telling us about people turning into death?" I said and my lips curled into a half smile.
"Oh my god, I died laughing once I remembered the real reason." She exclaimed and started laughing. "People turning into death. Oh come on... that was only you throwing a tantrum. From what I recall, you got into a fight with that guy and you tried to make your own mini army to prove your point. In which he transformed them into failed 'possession' subjects. Poor people, they were trying to give explanation to the madness you caused."
"Ah, so that's what happened." I gave her a quick grin and then I took Ivan from her. "I wonder what were fighting over?"
"Beats me, but if it made you mad, then it was serious, or really just stupid." She laughed and gently hit my back.
"Oh come on..." I pouted and then smiled.
I haven't smiled or laughed like this from a long time. It sure feels good.
I wish.... I wish I could bring my clan back together, I don't remember them, but I remember enough to care.
