Chapter 18: Fashion 101 Hosted by Yours Truly, Katie Dayton
"I freakin' knew it!" Katie screamed, dancing around me.
I face-palmed my forehead as several students walking past stared at her.
"This doesn't mean anything, Katherine. All he did was ask me to winter formal. As friends, might I add," I replied.
Katie stopped her unusual dancing and frowned, placing her hands on her hips.
"So? It's still him asking you out. So technically I win the bet," She said.
"No. The deal was that you prove Connor likes me. This hardly qualifies as anything," I responded.
"Does too!" She said defensively.
"Does not!"
"Does too!"
"I'm telling you, I'm not going to listen to your useless banter. Connor does not and will not like me. That's final," I said, walking away from Katie.
She closely followed behind, making sure her eyes pierced through my head.
"You're not getting away THAT easily, Carter. I think you know that Connor may like you, but you don't want to admit it," Katie declared.
"You're so far off, it's quite funny," I responded, weaving in and out of the wave of students.
"Actually, I'm dead on spot. You're just too stubborn to realize it," She said.
I stopped in the middle of the hallway, facing Katie.
"Why're you SO sure that Connor likes me? You seem like you know exactly what's going on. Is there a certain reason?" I asked suspiciously.
She shrugged.
"No. I just can tell. I can also tell you like him."
I laughed.
"Sure. But more as a friend," I said.
She shook her head.
"No. You like him a little bit more than that."
I hated how she could see through me.
"Okay. Maybe I like him a LITTLE bit more than a friend. But that's all! I refuse to go down the same path as I did with Aiden," I said, continuing to walk down the hall.
Katie pursued after me, keeping a fast-walking pace.
"Okay, I understand where you're coming from. You're afraid that Connor won't like you, as Aiden didn't. But Connor ISN'T Aiden, and we both know that," Katie said.
"I know Connor isn't Aiden. But he still won't like me. No one has, and no one will," I said bluntly.
Katie coughed loudly.
"I beg to differ! Tons of decent guys have liked you! But you didn't give them the time of day because you were too busy being obsessed with Aiden," She stated.
"Oh, Katie. When will you realize I don't really care anymore? I'm perfectly O.K. with where I'm at. Aiden and I are sort of in a rough spot, but it's not like I care too much. I mean, I don't really like him anymore. And I enjoy being friends Connor. I'm happy," I said honestly.
Katie squinted at me, before pursing her lips.
"Okay. I see what you're saying."
