Chapter 21: Awkward
I pulled away from Connor's lips and gawked at him.
"I-I have to go," I stuttered, stumbling towards Katie.
Katie was currently in the middle of dancing with Joseph.
"Katie. We need to leave now," I whispered, tugging at her sleeve.
She turned around and raised an eyebrow.
"Is everything okay?" She asked.
I shook my head.
"We need to leave," I replied.
Katie nodded understandingly and walked me outside, where a gust a freezing wind whipped our faces.
"Carter?" She asked, as we sat on a curb.
"Yeah?" I replied.
"I don't mean to be a downer, but.....how're we getting home?" She questioned.
I face-palmed myself.
"I didn't even think of that. Do you know anyone?" I asked.
"Not well enough to ask them to pick us up."
I sighed.
"I only know Aiden," I said.
Katie shook her head.
"Why don't we just have Connor take us home? Unless something bad happened," She said.
I stared out into the parking lot, as I rested my head on Katie's shoulder.
"Nothing bad happened," I replied.
"Then what's the matter?" She asked comfortingly, patting my back.
"Connor kissed me," I said.
"WHAT?!" She screamed.
I jumped, breathing heavily.
"That scream was in my ear thank you very much," I said.
"B-but he kissed you! How is that-but-what?!" She mumbled, pacing back and forth.
"And.....he may or may not have told me that he's falling for me," I said, flinching.
"Oh my gosh! What even - He actually said that?! This is great! OH MY GOSH! He actually said it! He likes you! I knew it! I was right the whole time and you didn't believe me! Oh-"
"Katie, will you calm down? The way you're reacting, you'd think you're the one who's just had her life altered," I cut in.
Katie scoffed.
"Your life has not been altered. By the way, I win the bet," She replied.
"What bet?" I questioned.
"The bet where I said Connor liked you. I win, which means I get to publicly humiliate Aiden," She stated.
I was about to ask what in the heck she was talking about, when realization dawned on me.
"Oh. That bet."
"CHICKEN!"
"OKAY! I'll do whatever stupid bet you have in store for me. Just stop being so fricken' annoying," I yelled.
