Chapter 6: Shadow

Hiccup's P.O.V 

We were moving swiftly. The boat rocked as we moved over the crested waves, at this rate I would arrive at the nesting grounds by dawn. 

I had chosen the smallest lightest boat, so that it would move quickly, and because hopefully people wouldn't notice the boat was gone for a few hours. I sighed if only Astrid was at my side now, but if that was the case I realized, then we wouldn't be here anyway.

I pulled the thin package, from my satchel that contained food, water and blankets. It was rapped in brown paper and tied with string, I pulled at the string which came away. I began to pull the paper off, inside was a wonderfully crafted leather book and on the front in gold thread was a very detailed Night Fury. In the moonlight the thread glittered and made it look as though the Night Fury was moving.

"Oh Astrid" I said looking out to sea, on the horizon I could see a small amount of land, I was getting closer. 

Astrid's P.O.V 

I landed next to our dragons and ran up to Stormfly, she perked up when she saw me and made a happy sort of rumbling as she stretched her head towrds me. I hugged her neck

"Oh Stormfly" I cried tears streaming down my face. 

I pulled away and watched as she pushed threee little baby Nadders forward with her tail. I smiled as they tried to nip my fingers. 

I heard a thumping coming off to the right, I turned to see an excited Toothless thumping his tail against the ground he then ran over to me licking my face. 

"Hey Toothless" I said laughing as he licked me again "who's your friend?" 

Grrrrghhh said Toothless looking at the other Night Fury, she walked slowly over to us. I held out my hand as she came closer. Toothless nudged her with his head encouragingly, she let me touch her and looked at me with large eyes. 

"Does you have a name?" I asked, I didn't expect an answer but still I asked. 

"Shhhraddoowww" Toothless growled. 

"What?" I said suprised

"Shhhraddoowww" 

"She's called Shadow?" I said to Toothless who nodded along with Shadow. 

 I watched as Shadow growled and raised her wing a bit. Underneath were two little black dragons, the bolder of the two came closer and Shadow nudged the one that had stayed by her side. It was unbelievable how fast Shadow had trusted me, the little Night Fury's came up to me and licked my hands. 

"awwww they're splitting images of their parents" I said as I crouched to let them sniff me. "Do they have names yet?" I said maybe Toothless could tell me. 

He shook his head with a snort. 

"Really?" I said. "Well I'm sure Hiccup will love naming these two" 

Hiccup. I thought even thinking about him hurt. The sun had set and I was getting tired, back on Berk eveyone would have realized that I had gone. 

I stood leaving the two hatchlings to go back to their parents, I walked over to Spike and Stormfly who were sniffing each other curiously. 

"Come on Stormfly time for bed" I said yawning she looked at me and lay down. I snuggled up against her and the three Nadder hatchlings snuggled against me. Stormfly folded her wing over us to keep the icy wind out. I drifted off thinking of Hiccup and how happy he would be for Toothless. 

Hiccup's P.O.V

*Bump* 

I woke as the boat hit the shore, I stood and looked up at the island. I sighed in relief thankfully the boat hadn't gone off course, the gods were in my favor.
