Chapter 16: Rescue Mission

Astrid's P.O.V 

I stood with my back against one of the Berk buildings. Night had fallen and Berk was cover in a cloak of darkness. The only light was from the torches placed in different sections of town.

Stormfly's breath was hot on the back of my neck. I peered around the side of the building looking out for Outcasts. At the sight of Savage and Alvin walking down the cobblestone street I pulled quickly back into the shadows. 

"Do you have any reports from the ships about Hiccup and the Night Fury?" spat Alvin.

"No Alvin, we can't reach them." Savage said swinging his axe by his side. "we have to wait untill they get back and hope that they have the boy."

"They better or..." Alvin drew a finger across his throat.

I would have kept listening in on their conversation if there hadn't been a loud bang and eruption of smoke from the outskirts of the village. The Twins. Of course.

They were supposed to cause a distraction without destroying anything. Looks like they managed to blow up a few buildings. They probably didn't even hear the instruction. I sighed in relied as Alvin and Savage ran off towards the gas that was clouding the air. I silently prayed, for the twins sake that they got out of there fast, the look on Alvin's face was murderous. Mind you he was like that most of the time.

My instructions were to free the people of berk. Hiccup, Snotlout, Willow, Heather, Gwyneth (ughhhh I dont even know why she's helping us) and Fishlegs would then cpature the Outcasts which hopefully wouldn't be too hard. Hiccup was supposed to watch when I entered the hall, if the Outcasts came back then he and the others would deal with them.

"Come on girl" I whispered to Stormfly putting a hand on her shoulder as we walked slowly out of the gloomy alley.

We hurried to the great hall. I could here cries of 'FIRE' from behind me. Stormfly growled uncertainly at the sound.

"Don't worry girl" I said "I'm sure the twins did a great job of destroying Berk."

I silently hoped they wouldn't consider that as a career option. I looked up to the starry sky hoping to see Hiccup watching me, that's stupid I thought he's on a Night  Fury Astrid! We reached the Great Hall and I pushed the heavy door open with Stormfly's help. It was empty as all the Outcast's were probably trying to sort out whatever mess the twins had made. 

I ran, feet thudding to the door at the back of the Great Hall. I opened it and walked through the corridor towards the cells. Remembering Stormfly was still there and she was to big to get through. 

"Stay there Stormfly" I whispered pionting my finger. She growled as if to say 'well were else would I be going?'

I hurried on down the corridor. "Stoick?" I whispered, as I walked into the cell room. It was basically rooms lining the walls with bars. Berk hardly used them anymore but it seemed the Outcasts had a new use for them. Inside the cells were vikings, most sleeping, some looked up as I entered. 

"Astrid!" Stoick gasped, sitting up next to Gobber. "What are ye doing here?" 

"Breaking you out" I walked over to his cell. "Where are the keys?" 

Stoick was about to reply but he went pale as he looked behind me. 

"Looking for these girly?" asked a taunting voice. 

"what" I gasped turning around. Behind me was Alvin. 

 "Savage seize the girl" he said almost lazily.

I put up a struggle as Savage made to grab me. I continued to dodge him untill he got a lucky shot forcing my arms to my side.

"Stop it or I cut the girl's throat." snarled Alvin holding a knife to Willows throat. 

I imediatly stopped glaring at Alvin. I watched in horror as Hiccup, Fishlegs, Snotlout, Heather and Gwyneth stumbled in after being pushed by Oucast's, there arms were bound. The hope of a rescue faded from me, out like a light.

Willow's P.O.V

I stumbled and fell as Alvin shoved me into the cell.

"Lay your hands off her!" snarled Fishlegs a furious glint in his eyes. 

"Get in there" Savage said shoving him, ignoring his outburst.

The rest of the gang joined us in the cellar, as Fishlegs helped me to my feet holding me to his side. 

"What the hell happened?" shrieked Astrid as soon as the Outcast's had made sure the locks were secure. "Why didn't you stop them?"

"We got distracted" Hiccup said casting a sidelong look at Gwyneth. "It was dark and we didn't know they were coming back untill we heard Willow scream."

"And the dragons?" She asked a look of worry crossing her face. 

"They got tied up and haulled to the dragon arena." Hiccup murmered. 

Astrid sighed slumping down against the back wall turning away from us, including Hiccup. Hiccup being the occasional idiot her was didn't try and comfort her. Instead he sat down next to Gwyneth and I could have sworn I saw a look of guilt cross his face.
