A/N: sorry for the late update but here it is...
____________
"You know he's tried his very best." I say to Lincoln just before it's time for me to head back to my cell."I know." He's very quiet today. Which is understandable. Today he is executed.
"I'll, um, I'll see you later. Before, befo..."
"Before I die." He cuts me off. I hug him tightly and head for the door where an officer is ready to take me back to my cell. "I don't want to seem rude if I can't talk to you later properly," he begins, I stop in my tracks and turn to look at him. "Michael is going to need someone to look after him. Can you please do that for me? When I'm gone?"
"Of course I can." I reply in all honesty.
"Liv?" He says as I'm about to leave again.
"Yeah?"
"I love you baby." I'm facing the door so at least he can't see my face. He doesn't need to see people crying he needs people to be strong for him. I turn back around once I've composed myself.
"I love you too, Linc."

I'm soon back in the yard with everyone else, sitting on the bleachers with Michael and Sucre. They explain to me the newly installed pipe under the drain and how getting through it simply can't be done.
"He doesn't even know what happened." Michael says, referring to Lincoln.
"He knows you tried." Sucre replies.
"Do you think so?" Michael asks.
"I know so." I tell him, my hand comforting him by rubbing his knee. "We spoke about it this morning."
"I promised I would get him out of here." Michael continues to beat himself up about letting him down.
"You promised a lot of people, pretty." T-Bag saunters over in his usual cocky state.
"Now's not a good time, get lost." I say.
"This don't concern you, girlie." He warns.
"You don't get a mans hopes up like that and then just..."
"Back up bro, or I'll put your skinny ass in the ground. And it wouldn't take much to do it." Sucre stands up to him. He just licks his lips as a reply just as yard time is announced to be over.
"You owe me a ticket out of here, pretty." He points at Michael threateningly, "I will collect." Then he saunters away again.
"I'm really sorry about your brother." Grandad says as we walk back to the cell block together.
"Thanks." Michael replies dryly. "Look I know you were counting on this so..."
"Let me worry about my problems, I know you've got enough on your mind right now." Sometimes, through everything that my Grandad has ever done, I wonder why I ever held any resentment toward him. He has been nothing but a perfect role model since I got in here and now I don't know what I would do without him.
"For what it's worth, over the years I've known a few men who sat on the chair, and as the day gets nearer all you can really do is pray it goes quickly." Grandad continues. "Once about ten years ago, there was a man who caught a few sparks, not enough to do the job, had to wait another three weeks while they reset the whole process. It may sound crazy but he said it was the worst three weeks of his life, cause it's not the lightening that kills you, it's the wait. So take solace in the fact that your brothers wait is over."
"So if something happens to the chair, he's got three more weeks." Michael checks, oh god, what's he thinking?
"There's a lot of protocol with killing a man. New death warrant, another medical clearance."
