Michael hammers on the door of an apartment in a large block that we stumbled to waiting for the inhabitant to answer it.
Eventually we here a chain rattle and the door clicks as it opens revealing us to an extremely pretty women. "I need your help." Michael gasps. Linc really is quite heavy, especially when he can't support himself. He doesn't give her a chance to reply before he advances into the flat.
"Michael what are you doing?"
"Cayenne pepper." He says.
"What?" She replies in her heavy foreign accent.
"In you kitchen do you have any?" I ask her.
"Urm, yeah, maybe."
"I'm going to need, white spirit, like vodka, some towels and pain killers, what ever you've got, please." I say to the women. She rushes off and I start to pull up his trouser. "Careful, easy." I say as he starts to pull them as well. "Hey easy, easy." I repeat and he groans in pain.
I undo the the chief I tied earlier and dab at the blood trying to soak some up.
"It's fine, Liv. Let's just keep moving." He says swallowing a few pills that have just been handed to him by the girl.
"If we keep moving, that wound keeps bleeding, if it's bleeding we're not getting out of Illinois." Michael replies for me as I get to work.
"This is going to hurt but it's to clean it." I warn him and then tip the Smirnoff onto his leg. He growls and grips the couch taking a swig out of the bottle which I really want to do but I'm distracting myself by helping him. After the alcohol I tip the pepper onto his wound. "This will seal the capillaries." I tell him, going through each step.
"You shouldn't have come here, the police have been round asking questions." The girl warns Mike.
"We didn't have a choice." He replies watching as I work.
"I'm thankful for the green car but I don't want to get involved-" She says. This must be Nika.
"It wasn't part of our deal I know, I know, I know." Michael replies getting stressed out. "I'm sorry." He tells her.
I grab a small towel and wrap it around his leg using duct tape to secure it in place.
"When I saw you on the news I was worried, I just hoped you had crossed the border by now." She says.
"So did I." Michael admits.
"Please may you see if you can find him some clean clothes?" I ask her politely and she gets up exiting the room to look.
"I'm going to see if I can get the car." Michael announces getting up.
"Forget the car." Lincoln says. "We can get another."
"I don't need a car I need that car!" Michael tells him.
"Why?" He asks. Michael pulls on his hat sighing.
"Because in that car, is everything we need to disappear." He says walking out the door. I look after him for a moment then turn back to Lincoln.
"Here take another one of these." I hand him a pain killer and he goes to wash it down with the vodka. "I wouldn't mix those together." I suggest taking the bottle and going to put it on the kitchen counter.
I turn back to make sure I'm not in his eye line and take a little swig from the bottle feeling the familiar liquid burn my throat in a satisfying way and follow it up with another gulp. "Liv?" He asks and I move into view leaving the bottle on the counter.
