The door is closed behind him and we are led into a different door.
Inside this room is a few rows of chairs and we are put at the front. At the moment the glass is covered by a black curtain so we can't see what is going on behind it.
Two women and a man enter after us, they must be the reporters but we don't pay any attention to them. I'm sat between Michael and Veronica and I feel like it's my job to comfort them.
I'm still holding both of their hands and we're all looking into our laps until a new light source comes through dimly and we realise the curtains have been opened revealing Lincoln.
He's sat on a wooden chair tied with buckles in multiple places and a wet sponge dripping on his head. Veronica looks away immediately and Michaels chest rises up and down faster while tears pour out onto his face.
I squeeze each of their hands a little and rest our arms on the rests between each seat. Lincoln looks at each of us intently one by one. Looking into his loved ones eyes one last time.
This is the man who's helped me through so much. The man who has helped and cared for me over half of my life. This man is everything. I wouldn't be alive today without him. I wouldn't feel anything without him.
But I can't think of myself and who I am losing. These people next to me matter the most, these two people are his true family.
Lincoln starts to mumble, trying to get a message to Michael but the thick glass between us is preventing any noise getting through we can't hear him. "What do you think he's saying?" Veronica asks.
I scan the room behind us. The reporters don't look familiar to me at all. When I turn to look back at Lincoln he's staring at me like that's what he wanted me to do, to scan the room. I frown at him trying to figure out his dying message.
I don't have time though because they place a black cloth over his entire face. All we can see now is his torso moving up and down from his deep scared breaths. And then...
The curtain shuts.
What?
I don't think that's supposed to happen. "What's going on?" Michael stands up.
"I don't know." Veronica replies.
"What's happening?" He looks straight at me, I stand up as well, holding his arm.
"I don't know, Michael." I whisper. "I don't know." He envelopes me in a hug full of confusion and doubt. The man at the back of the room is staring at me intently, it makes me feel really uncomfortable and like he shouldn't be here, whoever he is. Bellick comes into the room.
"Scofield, Granges." He looks at us bitterly. "Miss Donovan." He looks at Veronica much kinder, "come with me."
"Where are we going?" I ask him.
"Just come with me." He snarls.
Veronica rises from her seat and exits the room first and we follow, Michael holding my hand so tight that it's starting to go purple. We are led back to the final visitation room and we sit around the table again, waiting nervously for any news.
Eventually an officer opens the door and the Warden walks in slowly looking guilty and sad. "I can't tell you how sorry I am that you've had to go through all of this." He says. My face drops from hope to sadness. He's dead. Veronica and Michaels faces reflect my own.
But then we here a jingle of chains and Lincoln is escorted into the room. I can't believe my eyes. I'm so relieved and happy that I can't help the tears of joy that fall. If we have extra time, Mike can still get him out of here. Veronica rushes to him and helps him sit down.
