The Problem

The problem, it was very large indeed. For Raven was not the Governor's daughter, and therefore had no rescue or ransom coming. What was to happen when the pirates figured that out? Well, she did not prefer to think about it.

Not to mention a certain young man aboard this ship was much more clever then she was comfortable with, and also liked to vex her continuously. He was probably her biggest reason for complaint...

"Good morning dearie!" Seth sang as he entered the room.

He was bringing in her daily ration of food, which wasn't much. Raven, who had come to greatly despise her tormentor, crossed her arms with her head held high.

"Do not speak to me so informally! You may call me Linda, and that is all." She hissed.

The young man frowned with a disappointed pout.

"Aw, that ain't no fun at all..."

She turned away from him with a huff. Goodness, this man was more exhausting than her imprisonment!

"And you sir, are no pleasure to be around."

He chuckled, looking amused.

"Well, maybe that is because you insist on hiding all the way inside your cage. I could be more fun if you would just come out for a bit with me."

Raven's mind immediately thought of possible escape. Perhaps if she stepped out she could attack and outrun the pirate! Then she could get out of this room and flee!

Ah, but where would she go next? The sea? To her death? Just how was a girl to escape a whole ship full of pirates!?

"Something the matter dearie?" The man snickered from the other side of the cell.

Raven glanced towards him with unease. She knew escape might be impossible, but staying here helplessly was no better. Besides, she needed to discern a bit more about her kidnappers.

"Yes actually, I am feeling quite stifled. Perhaps I truly would like to come out for a bit..." She said in a soft and pitiful voice.

Seth's green eyes widened with surprise that quickly turned to excitement. He smiled with amusement and cocked his head to the side.

"I see...how brave of you!" He teased.

Raven shot him a warning glare, though it only made him laugh some more. Then she watched as he did indeed come over and unlock the cell. He swung open the door and stood there waiting for her.

"There you are miss! Now come over here quickly, before I have to come in and get you." He mused.

She scowled again, not liking his tone of voice or wandering eyes.

"Step away from the door and I shall!"

The young man rolled his eyes with a sigh but slowly backed away as she had instructed. After he was far enough from her Raven made her way towards the barred door. She stepped out slowly, watching the pirate with caution as she turned to face him fearlessly.

"Now then, perhaps you might escort me for a walk around the deck? I am sick of this dull room." She said with an air of superiority.

Seth smiled with at her demands with astonishment.

"My, so bossy for a prisoner."

Raven returned a smug grin of confidence. If she acted out the right part it should hopefully lead her to the right course.

"Yes well, I will not be a prisoner of yours for long. Once my father sends you the money I will be free of your uncouth company. That was the bargain, correct?" She giggled.

Seth's smile widened just a bit, although it was with a different undertone than usual.

"Calling me uncouth? Interesting."

Raven's eyes narrowed, not understanding his meaning.

He noticed her intrigue and starting walking towards her slowly, finishing his thought.

"I only mean that such a command is funny, coming from a poor, orphaned ward like yourself." He chuckled.

Raven instantly felt all the color drain from her face as her eyes widen with horror and fear. She tried to back up into the cell again, but the young man reached her first and grabbed her by the arms to stop her.

"You should be more careful miss. You are on a ship full of scoundrels, remember?" He said with mischief.
