James's POV
I was at the cafeteria of my school, I talked with my best friends, West and.... Eldon. Don't get me wrong, Eldon is my boy, it's just... he has a girlfriend and... I... I love her. And I know she loves me back. I could tell by how her eyes shined every time she looked at me. When she looked at Eldon... her eyes were full of sadness. I knew she wanted to be with me. She never told me why she even dated him. Anyway, after a few minutes, she came.
E: hey babe !
R: hey...
Riley said as Eldon pulled her into a hug. Ugh, why am I so jealous ??
E: have a sit.
Eldon said and Riley sat next to him. Which is also... next to me. I know it's nothing... she just sat next to me. But... I couldn't help but feel butterflies all over my stomach. I wanted to hold her little hand and kiss her so bad. But I couldn't. And that fact broke me.
Riley's POV
I sat next to Eldon and James. But I couldn't help but want to be just with James. I love him. But... I need to be with Eldon. I need to be with him even if I don't have feelings towards him... I never told James that I love him, but I think he already knew that. I couldn't help it and I held his hand, which was over his thigh. No one could see that, because there was a table in front of us. James looked at me slightly shocked. As I realized what I have done I let his hand go as quickly as I could.
James's POV
Riley held my hand. I feel kinda worried about Eldon might see that, but I secretly loved it. Her hand felt so soft... after a couple of seconds she let my hand go which made me feel sad...
R: I... I gotta go...
Riley said and left the cafeteria.
Without even thinking I ran after her.

J: Hmm... Riley ?
I said as I opened the door to the janitor's closet.
R: what...?
J: can you... tell me why you held my hand earlier and then ran away ?
Riley nodded.
R: listen, James... I... I...
J: you... what ?
R: I love you.
I just stood there speechless. The girl I was in love with for like, two years, told me she has feelings towards me.
J: I... I- I love you too. A lot.
R: listen... hmm... I-I can't do this.
J: what ?
R: I can't do that to Eldon...
J: Riley... why did you started to date him if you never had feelings towards him ?
R: he was my friend. He was my best friend. And then he asked me out. I couldn't break his heart... and I can't do that now.
