surreal.

never had jeongguk found a word more fitting for his situation.

it was all just so ... surreal.

not that it wasn't possibleㅡxy jimin clearly hadn't interacted with namjoon much from the way he was acting during dinner. as long as namjoon hadn't mentioned hoseok, his 'best friend in the whole wide world,' as jimin had stated, there was nothing else he really could have said to arouse suspicion. from the way jeongguk and jimin's conversation had gone during their ... date, he decided that one wouldn't usually discuss what had happened during a texting conversation in real life.

but what about the most frustrating part of it allㅡhow had namjoon and jimin arrived at the same table? he thought of jaehyun, handing his notepad to another waiter, instructing him to lead a jimin to his table ...

and a jimin was led.

jeongguk tried to visualize what had happened next, when another jimin had arrived. confusion must have erupted among the waiters, causing them to go over the bookings in a frenzy. to discover another couple with a jimin. to make assumptions.

maybe it wasn't so surreal after all.

but it was, jeongguk realized. not only had he gone on a date with a stranger, but so had his original date, and they both hadn't realized it until ...

until ...

though fully aware of how long he was taking to reply to jimin, he put the fact and his phone aside to ponder further. until he'd picked up the all-too-many signals and connected them to give him an unpleasant jolt of realization, until he'd been shoved out of the restaurant, until he'd finally caught a registerable glimpse of the male jiminㅡshort choppy hair falling into his eyes, his clearly masculine featuresㅡhe'd been unaware of jimin not being ... jimin.

but jiminㅡshin jimin ...

she still doesn't know.

his first feeling? a pang of hurt. how could she not have been able to tell that the man opposite to her wasn't her gukie? everyday, for at least an hour without fail, they'd manage to squeeze in a giant amount of conversation. didn't she know him well enough to be able to differentiate a total stranger from him?

the hurt dissipated almost instantly as guilt flooded in for the same reason as the last time he'd experienced the emotionㅡhe hadn't noticed that the male jimin wasn't her until more halfway through dinner. he wasn't one to talk.

but jimin still didn't know.

here she was, raving on about his charming personality, how amazing, memorable their date had beenㅡbut it wasn't him. it wasn't them.

it was namjoon who had a charming personality. it was namjoon and jimin who had gone on a date.

namjoon and jimin. his jimin.

he wondered; had namjoon realized the mix-up? jeongguk had sat there assuming a guy to be a girlㅡcould namjoon have possibly mistaken a girl for a guy?

if namjoon had indeed noticed the mix-upㅡjeongguk boiled with rage at the thoughtㅡhe'd obviously kept him mouth shut about it and allowed the rest of the date to proceed smoothly. how else would jimin be here, gushing about how much she enjoyed the date?

jeongguk's lips parted in shock, the fact finally hitting home. "oh my god, jimin enjoyed the date."

what was he supposed to do now? minie, about the guy you had the fucking time of your life with? yikes. wasn't me. but hey, i'm not all that bad either! how about another date, huh?
