"order for jeongguk!"

jeongguk murmured a quick thanks through his scarf, gratefully wrapping his hands around the heated cup of coffee. the blissful aroma that seemed to dominate the café at all hours had had him almost foaming at the mouth while he waited for his order, and to have the origin of the sickly sweet scent right within his grasp, all to himselfㅡoh, jeongguk loved that. maybe even more than the coffee itself.

turning away from the counter, he raised the cup to his lips and took the tiniest sip; he sighed contently. tasted as good as it smelled. along with his coat, scarf and beanie, the coffee would assist him in his battle against the cold.

jeongguk navigated himself through the close-packed café, hands braced protectively around his drink. he'd never been one to actually sit in a shop and indulge in his purchased beverage or food item, despite seokjin's repeated pleas to just take a damn seat and spend more than eight seconds on a pastry. jeongguk still didn't understand why seokjin was so against how he inhaled his food; after all, he only saw it as a means to get through his day, not as something to be enjoyed. the taste was only an added bonus.

"excuse me," jeongguk mumbled, coming to a standstill in front of an inconveniently placed pram. he looked away uncomfortably as the baby within it focused its bulbous eyes on him; he really didn't like children. their chubby faces and little hands made him squirm.

jeongguk heard the baby gurgle and the mother murmur an apology as his diverted gaze settled on a distant table, located by the shop's window. it was occupied by a dark-haired male, who was staring out of the glass with his head swaying slightly to the music playing through his earphones.

jeongguk blinked. then he squinted.

chubby face, little hands.

"shit," he gasped out loud, pulling his scarf away from his mouth. "shit, jimin!" no response, though the baby did gurgle again. did that mean it was going to puke? seeing this as adequate reason to move away from his current location, jeongguk backed out of the cluttered area and rerouted himself, almost tripping over himself multiple times in his hurry.

"jimin!" he called again, manoeuvring himself between a couple tables. nothing. damn earphones!

he stopped abruptly, causing a few disgruntled heads to turn. still, he stood in his spot for a moment, unsure.

would it be okay to approach him? after over a week of inactivity on jimin's side of their chat, jeongguk found himself seriously doubting it. maybe jimin really was still mad at him. maybe he really was ignoring his messages. and maybe he was prepared to be mad at him and ignore him for the rest of his life.

but maybe...

maybe he just hadn't bothered to check his messages? meaning he hadn't even known that jeongguk had messaged him, instead of him knowing and still choosing to ignore him. and that could either mean that he hadn't heard jeongguk's side of it yet, and there was still a chance that he could find it in himself to forgive him; or he really wasn't mad at all. simply because he hadn't checked.

so would it be okay to approach him? maybe. big, fat maybe. and jeongguk was willing to take his chances.

on that note, he nodded to himself firmly and walked the remaining distance between them, coming to a complete standstill next to his table. he took another moment to observe the still oblivious boy.
