Luke and I were going to the zoo today. It's our favourite place to go on nice and sunny days like this.

Mum packed us peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, two juice boxes and fruits in a picnic basket.

"Desi!" Mum calls.

"Yes mum?" I ask.

"You and Luke are quite the best of friends aren't you?" She smiles, taking the plates off the kitchen table and putting them into the sink.

"Yeah we are! He's the best person I have ever met!" I exclaim.

"It's amazing how you two have grown close with each other. Did you know that today is the day where you and Luke first met and became friends?" Mum says.

"That's today?!" I gasped.

"It is sweetie!" Mum giggled.

"That's awesome!" I say, jumping up and down on the lounge.

The doorbell rang and I looked out the window to see Luke. My face brightened up and I ran to the door, opening it quickly.

"Hi Desi!" Luke waves.

"Hi Luke!" I smile, "Did you know that today is the day we met and became best friend?"

"Really?" Luke's smile grew, "That's awesome!"

"That's what I said!" I giggled, giving him a hug. We stayed like that for a while until I pulled back.

"I see that you're wearing your favourite elephant shirt." Luke says, pointing at my shirt.

"And I see that you're wearing your favourite penguin shirt!" I smile.

"They're my favourite animal in the entire world!" Luke yelled.

"I know that, Luke." I laughed.

"Well kids," I hear mum say, "Are you ready?"

"Ready!" Luke and I say together.

"Okay then," Mum grabs her keys and smiles, "Let's go!"

~

"Woah! Look at that penguin swim!" Luke exclaims.

"He swims really fast!" I say, watching the penguin Luke was pointing at.

I was looking around the habitat and my eyes caught a penguin that was bending up and down in a funny way.

"Luke! Look at that penguin going a funny dance move!" I point at the penguin and shake his arm.

He moved his face to the penguin that I told him to look at and started laughing, "That penguin is really funny!"

"I can see why penguins are your favourite animals." I smile.

"Yes! Now let's go see the elephants!"

"To the elephants!" I pumped my fist in the air.

"Up, up and away!" Luke made a swooshing sound and started running.

"Luke! Desi! Stay close with each other! I don't want either of you getting lost!" Mum calls.

We both stopped running and I looked at Luke. "Mummy says that we have to stay close to each other, Luke."

"Okay then," He holds out his left hand and smiles, "Hold my hand. That way, we won't get lost and we're close to each other."

"Okay!" I grin, "Let's go!"

As we're walking to see the elephants, we saw a peacock, a parrot, a tiger, and giraffes. We never let go of each other's hand because imagine what would happen if one of us was lost in this big world.

Finally, we see the elephants from afar and a big smile grows on my face. "Look! I see the elephants Luke! Come on!"

I drag him to an open spot and watch the big mammals do their thing. There was a giant elephant in the middle of the field drinking from their pond.

"Aw! Look at that baby elephant playing the water!" Luke points.

I looked to where he was pointing and he was right, there was a baby elephant splashing and spraying water everywhere. "They're so cute!" I giggle,

Just then, and elephant trumpeted and more elephants made the same noise. "Hey Luke! We should do the same sound they're doing! Maybe we can talk to them!"

"Yeah!" He says, then puts his hand to his nose and starts making a trumpeting noise. I did the same.

The baby elephant came running to us and made the noise. "Look he's talking to us!"

"What do you think he's saying?" Luke asks.

"He's probably saying, I love you Luke!" I say in a high voice.

"No, he's probably saying, I love you Desi!" Luke says in a high voice too.

We both burst out laughing and I started to feel a bit hungry.

"Kids! It's time for lunch!" Mum calls.

"Yay!" Luke and I say together.

~

"Mum! Luke ate the last grape when it was supposed to be mine!" I whined.

"But she ate more grapes than me!" Luke says.

"Girls are better than boys! We should get what we want!" I stuck out my tongue at him.

"Not! Boys are better than girls! We should get what we want!"

"Is not!" I yell.

"Is too!" He yelled back.

"Is not!"

"Is too!"

"Kids! Will you please stop fighting! Both of you!" Mum scolds.

"But she started it!" Luke yelled.

"No! You ate the last grape!" I yelled back.

"Fine! I'm not going to talk to you or be friends with you ever again!" I say, turning around a folding my arms with a frown on my face."

"If that's how you like it's then fine with me!" Luke says.

I felt a tear fall down my cheek but I wipe it away quickly.

"Desi?" I hear mum say, "I don't like seeing the both of you fight."

"But he took it-."

"Took it or not, fighting is not the right answer to everything." Mum says. "Now, you say sorry for saying that girls are better than boys and everything will be okay."

"It will?" I sniff.

"Yes sweetie. There's a rainbow after every storm, so put a smile on your face and apologise." She smiles.

"Okay," I wipe my eyes and put a small smile on my face, then walk over to Luke.

"Luke? I'm sorry for saying that girl are better than boys." I say, looking down at him.

"And I'm sorry for saying that boys are better than girls... And for eating the last grape." He says, looking up at me.

"I didn't want that grape anyway. I was so full from the sandwich." I grin.

"Same here." He laughs.

"So... Friends?" I ask with a big smile on my face.

He stands up and wipes the grass off his pants. "Friends..."

"there's a rainbow after every storm." aw i'm crying. anyways, hope you guys like it! thanks for the votes i really appreciate it! i shall end my authors note with something from now on so... keep on truckin'! love ya! x
