July 25, 2008
Age: 12

It was lunch time and my mum made Luke and I peanut butter jelly sandwiches. Basically, it's a fast food (or whatever you call it) type of lunch because she has a lot of office work to do.

Mum has been so busy lately and she doesn't have enough time to do some fun stuff. I feel bad for her.

Right now, I'm imagining what it's like to be an adult; Will it be really stressful? Will my husband be handsome? How many kids will I have?

But I'm putting all those questions to the side because I'm only twelve and I still got a lot of years to live.

"Luke, what do you want to do when you grow up?" I asked while shoving the rest of my sandwich in my mouth.

"You see that guitar there in the corner of your living room?" Luke points.

"Yeah." I nod.

"I want to be the lead guitarist and singer in a band." Luke smiled.

"Do you know how to play a guitar and sing?" I raised my eyebrows.

"No," Luke chuckled. "That's why I'm going to teach myself how to."

"Oh." I nodded. "Hey, we should do a mini concert."

"Oh yeah! So that if my band and I ever become famous, I will know how it feels like to be on stage in front of all those screaming fans!" Luke grinned, "Well... Without the fans... Here."

"Yeah!" I exclaim happily, placing my plate in the sink. I run to the living room and grab the hairbrush from the coffee table and pretended like it was a microphone.

Luke came along and picked up the guitar that was leaning against the wall in the corner. He sat down on the lounge and positioned both of his hands on the instrument.

"So, what song should we sing?" Luke smiled.

I tapped my chin. "Hm, how about This Is Me by Demi Lovato?"

"Whatever you say," Luke shrugged.

I start belting out the lyrics to the song and Luke strums randomly too. No matter how bad we sound or look, we're having fun... I mean hey, we're only beginners.

"You're the voice I hear inside my head, the reason that I'm singing. I need to find you. I got to find you." Luke sang. He seemed to be getting the hand of strumming the guitar and I guess he figured out some chords for himself. "You're the missing piece I need, the song inside of me..."

"I need to find you. I got to find you." I finished. Luke flashed me a smile.

"This is real, this is me. I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be now. Going to let the light, shine on me. Now I've found who I am, there's no way to hold it in. No more hiding who I want to be. This is me."

There was clapping in the background and I know I wasn't the only one who heard it because Luke and I's head looked in the direction where the sound of the clapping was coming from. Mum.

"That was a great performance!" Mum grinned, continuing to clap.

"What? We were only playing around." Luke chuckled.

"Yeah mum. I'm pretty sure our mini performance was horrible." I say.

"Well, horrible or not, it was still good. Now, who wants some cookies to celebrate?" Mum says before skipping into the kitchen. Classic.

Luke and I agreed to some cookies and I sat on the lounge running the hairbrush through my hair. "I can already tell mum was lying."

"Hey, it was a first time experience. You never know we could get better."

"You." I corrected.

"Why not?" Luke asked.

"I'd rather not be famous for some reason." I shrugged, "Besides... It's you and your band."

Luke chuckled then shook his head. "Hey Desi?"

"Yeah?" I ask. He places his hand on my thigh.

"I know this might never happen but..." He trails off.

"But what?" I ask, ignoring the fact that his hand was on my thigh.
