Chapter 13 - Watt Romantic Bone are you referring to?

Patience glanced over to Josh as he drove.  His face had a dull red scuff mark on the jaw bone as the only evidence.  He had managed to fend off most of Loyal’s wild punches.  It had taken Alex and the twins to drag Loyal off Josh.  Jake didn’t come out of the garage even though several plates were broken and let’s not forget the condiments.  Loyal had thrown Josh against the pantry and the shelf holding all the breakfast spreads.  As a direct consequence both boys were smeared in sticky strawberry preserve and Loyal’s blonde hair was coated in something brown and chocolaty.

“You are lucky your father rang when he did,” Patience smiled but Josh didn’t take his eyes off the road, “If he hadn’t you would have been toast.”

“Yeah Dad has always had a knack with timing, although he could have timed it just a little better," he rubbed his jaw and then he smirked, "Ohh and I know that you think I am the greatest thing since sliced bread but when you toast me I'm just hotter!"

“Where are you taking me,” Patience ignored his smug laughter.  Josh was being very secretive about their first date.

“Here,” Josh smiled as he parked his small red sports car between to family sized cars.

“Josh, why have you brought me to the warehouse district?” Patience said slowly as she looked around, “I know you don’t date but I thought you understood the basic concept of dating.”

Josh laughed softly as he opened the door for her.

“I’m not really sure what I was expecting but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t this,” Patience looked around at the unsightly industrial park.

“Street racing?” she guessed but all the cars around them were wagons and people movers so maybe not.

“Rave party?” She frowned as she noticed the booster seats and baby capsules in the cars.

“Baby shower?” she grimaced.

“Close but no enchilada,” Josh laughed as he pointed to a large rainbow painted warehouse.

“Lollipop Land?  You can’t be serious?  You are taking me to Lollipop Land?”

He laughed and pulled her into the brightly lit building.  The first thing that hit her was the sound.  The place was filled with squealing children and the noise made fingers on a chalk board sound like a symphony.

“Josh, you are joking?” she tried again when he turned away from speaking to the girl on the cash register, “Don’t they have an age limit for places like this?”

“If anyone asks, we are here for Charlie’s birthday,” He muttered in her ear and wiggled his eyebrows.

“We are gate crashing a four year olds birthday party?”

“Come on, relax!” Josh laughed, “Take the night off Patience.  You walk around with the weight of the world on your shoulders, just relax and have fun.”

He tried to pull her to the multilevel padded, floor to roof, structure in the middle of the building.  The space inside was dominated by this huge elaborate climbing frame which had slides and other foreign objects jutting out of it.  There were dodgem cars in one corner, the biggest bouncy castle she had ever seen in another and the place was overrun with children.  Every surface was writhing with small bodies.

Patience pulled her hand from his and shook her head.  Sure this was a fake relationship, but she kind of expected him to take it a little more serious than this.  She walked away from him to the small cafe and ordered a hot chocolate before slumping into one of the soft chairs which were provided for the parents.
