"Still Here"

I pushed Asia in the shopping cart as we browsed the aisle of Walmart. Marcellus had dragged me out the house saying I need to pick what I wanted so I wouldn't keep eating his shit. When Joel told me about him still working with Marcellus, I was upset. I had been giving Marcellus dirty looks ever since.

After my parents had returned from their appointment, we sat down as a family and had a discussion. I had to go back to Marcellus to watch Asia but I promised to be back when I can.

"You got a problem yo?" Marcellus asked turning around suddenly making me stop the cart abruptly.

"What?" I asked taken off guard.

"What?" He mocked making a face as if I was stupid.

"Daddy you look ugly when you make that face" Asia laughed pointing at his face.

"It's not a face that's how he looks all the time" I replied rolling my eyes as I kept pushing the cart. I felt an arm hook arm my waist before I was pulled back.

"Since you came back, I peeped your little attitude" he said low enough so that Asia wouldn't hear.

"Why you keeping my brother involved with your shit after I told you not to" I said finally deciding to voice what was bugging me. I pushed him away from me and crossed my arms.

"Look he wanted in so I talked to the guy that supplies me. He ain't nothing but a corner boy selling dimes and nicks, he ain't doing no crazy shit"

"He's skipping school to go sling drugs on the street so that's a problem" I said before pushing the cart so that we could get out of here.

"That's his choice, he old enough to make that decision" Marcellus shrugged.

"He's my younger brother and it's my responsibility to make sure he becomes somebody and not a statistic" I said trying not to get emotional. I could see the path that Joel was heading down and I didn't want that for him.

"He gon do what he wants to do regardless. He was gon find somebody if I ain't put him on" he said walking off into another isle. If Asia wasn't in the cart, I would've ran full speed and hit him with it.

I decided to put the conversation on hold until we got back in the house. Asia picked up on everything someone said so it was best to keep quiet around her. Also old people in the supermarket were nosey as hell so I couldn't discuss everything without looking over my shoulder.
