"I'm fine, just a little pain but I'll be okay" Joie explained as if she wasn't covered in bruises.

"Where is Joel? He was suppose to take the bus with you" my mom shouted going over to Joie. I watched as Joie grimaced in pain when my mom brushed over some of her bruises.

"I don't know, he hasn't been in school all week" Joie snitched looking fed up.

"All week! Wait until I get my hands on that boy"

"I'll see where he's at" I said taking out my phone.

"Look at your fucking face!" my mom fumed examining the cuts and bruises on Joie's face.

"Who did this?" I asked not knowing who would want to fight Joie. I sent Joel and text, asking him where he was at before locking my screen.

"What's going on out here?" My father coming from their bedroom in the back.

He was dressed as if he was going out and I just realized my mother was also dressed. They must've been on their way out before I came. He stopped in his tracks when he say Joie. The look of confusion left his face as anger took its place.

"Joie got into a fight" I frowned taking a look at the gash above her head.

"Joie what the fu-who were you fighting?" my dad asked going to the hall closet to grab his shoes.

"I don't know who the girls were, they don't go to my school" Joie replied holding her head down.

"Girls? You got jumped? You remember how they look? We'll go around and look for them" my dad said pulling Joie towards him.

"Dad no, I'll ask some people around the way if they saw anything. Those girls are probably long gone" I said. The last thing I needed was my dad going out and getting shot by some young idiot who wanted to make a name for themselves.

"I'm fine, Ima just gonna go lay down" Joie tried reassuring them.

"Call me if you see or hear anything about them bitches again" my mom said.

"Mom y'all go where y'all were headed, Joie is good" I said trying to get them to leave. I knew Joie wasn't telling the complete story about what happened and I wanted to question her.

"I could miss this appointment" my dad spoke up.

"Is everything okay?" I asked eyeing the both of them. When my dad had first gotten news about his brain tumor, he didn't tell us because he didn't want us to worry about him. So I always worried if something else was wrong and he just wasn't telling us.
