With everything that was going on, time seemed to fly by double time for Luke. Weeks rushed by, then a month and the end of the year rolled around, and with it, the yule ball.

Everyone was excitedly running around the heavily decorated school, planning cute things to ask people out to be their ball date. For the first time Luke felt like he was at a regular high school and prom was about to happen. Calum had made him watch all the cliche teenage movies so Luke knew the drill, but still hadn't made his move.

Of course Calum and Luke were going to go together, but Luke still hadn't found a proper way to ask Calum out.

His thoughts drifted to the empty spot in his head where he was supposed to have a fully worked out plan for a "prom" proposal while he intensely stared at the giant glittering Christmas Tree that was standing across from him in the corner of the great hall.

He was standing on a little podium in the great hall next to Sophie.

The two of them had been asked to say a few words about their thoughts on the Triwizard Tournament, a few people from the daily prophet were there as well and McGonagall looked very annoyed by them.

Sophie had already said that she thought Hogwarts was beautiful, that english sweets were way better than French sweets, that she thought those christmas decorations were gorgeous and that she also liked the stay and the Tournament so far. Now she shoved the microphone into Luke's hands with a grin.

Sophie had become very good friends with Calum, Michael and him. Michael first hadn't been happy when Luke introduced her to the group but perked up immediately upon hearing that Sophie had actually found an amazing friend in Ashley. They had the same taste in music and had all classes together but apart from that they seemed to be polar opposites. Ashley was the moon, Sophie the sun. But still, Luke saw them laughing a lot together and both seemed to shine brighter when together. And so Sophie brought Ashley along a lot, very much to Michael's liking.

Luke tightened his grip on the microphone, he was scared it might slip out of his sweaty palm.

„Oh u-uhmm... hi?," Luke stuttered and cleared his throat, frantically trying to come up with a decent speech, "I mean.. uhm... what am I supposed to say? Hogwarts is kinda my home... You know, my parents died when I was barely 6 days old. They died in exactly this hall, so I guess, I always had a special connection to this school. This is the place where I lost and later found a family. My first best friend, my passion for music, people who are just like me. I am grateful to be here... The best thing I found here is the person down there with the dark curls and the tanned skin who always, ALWAYS, steals my sweaters... I love him and I don't even have the balls to ask him to go to the yule ball with me. Whoops, I didn't mean to say that, and now I am just rambling. Well, uhm might as well do that now, I guess.. Calum Thomas Hood, will you go to the yule ball with me?," Luke rambled smiling shyly. He knew he totally didn't nail the decent speech part, but he spoke out of his heart and that had to be worth something, right?

Calum blushed a deep crimson and nodded his head yes, smiling like a fool.

The Hufflepuff and Gryffindor table erupted in cheers and claps. Luke left the stage and went up to Calum, they shared a short kiss. Suddenly, they heard someone clearing their throat. Everyone looked up to the podium again to see Igor Karkaroff, headmaster of Durmstrang, standing at the microphone.

„I am sorry to interrupt, but we are talking about the yule ball here, a ball with a long and honorable tradition. Yes, students are supposed to go there with a date, but a date of the opposite gender. Not a boy with a boy or a girl with a girl. That's not meant to be, that is not tolerable. Durmstrang is standing strictly against such sick ideas!," he said, earning some agreeing mumbles from the Durmstrangs.

It was completely silent for a few seconds.

„If Calum and Luke aren't allowed to go to the ball together, I won't go either!," Miranda, a 5th grader from Ravenclaw huffed loud.

„Yeah, seriously, if Hood and Hemmings aren't allowed at the party, you will not see me there either! There is nothing wrong with them!," McMiller, 7th grader from Slytherin and schools jock shouted. A few students gawked at him in amazement.

„I won't go if the two boys aren't allowed there, and good luck having a Triwizard Tournament Ball without any of the champions, because may I remind you that Durmstrang doesn't even have a competing champion anymore? You are only here as guests, so show some gratitude for Merlin's sake!," Sophie declared from her spot at the Ravenclaw table next to Ashley, "and by the way, there are more than two genders! There is more than boy and girl, girl and girl or boy and boy. Do your research!!" Luke saw her and Ashley fistbump under the table.

There were a few cheers here and there, then a short silence.

And then, suddley, the great hall was filled with everyone from Hogwarts and Bourbaton shouting that they won't come to the ball if Calum and Luke weren't allowed to go together.

„So Igor," McGonagall said with a warm smile, „I guess you have to deal with it for one evening. Because in my school, we are tolerant and kind without exception. You and your students are of course not forced to come to the ball, but we would love to welcome you there on Friday night."

Karkaroff huffed annoyed and turned around to leave the great hall, more than just angry. He was nearly fuming while the great hall was filled with cheers again.
