I stood there frozen and dumbstruck. Laney was smiling evilly like a Cheshire cat. My parents raised their eyebrows suspiciously.
“Well, don’t wanna stay here all night. Bye Ted,” I said quickly. I turned around to face him and wave good bye. Apparently my parents had other plans.
“Don’t be rude, invite him in,” reprimanded my mother. I closed my eyes in defeat but my jaw clenched. I nodded my head towards the house and my parents made room for Ted.
Ted and I walked through the front door and I spotted my brother sitting in an armchair. I narrowed my eyes at him and sat on the sofa opposite of him. I was so focused in the staring contest I hadn’t noticed Ted was sitting right beside me. My parents and Laney sat at a couch that was placed to be the main attraction of the room. My mother looked at me with disapproval in her eyes and my father just looked bored.
Erick broke eye contact with me and began fidgeting, something he does when he’s guilty.
“Nina,” called my mother. This time I didn’t hide the annoyance in my eyes at my mother. I replied just as sourly.
“What?”
“That is no way to speak to your mother young lady,” scolded my mom. Laney’s grin was just getting better with each word coming out of my mother’s mouth.
“Yes mother?” I repeated. Get on with it I said silently.
“Why do you have a boy dropping you off at this late hour?” she asked. This was an interrogation that I assume Laney had caused.
“Just a ride home mother.”
“It’s not just a ride home because look at the time you got here! I don’t know what you were doing with this…hooligan, but you best stop it now and become a fine young woman like Laney here,” finished my mother while smiling at Laney.
Amazing! I get home and I’m forced to drag Ted in, what a horrible first impression, and now my mother was criticizing. Don’t even get me started on how I felt about how I was being accused of doing improper things with Ted!
“Wait right there!” I warned my mother. “First off his name is Ted,” I corrected. I could feel my face heating up from all the anger I was about to release but no one was about to stop me now. “He is the nicest guy I know and I don’t do inappropriate things with boys like Laney over there does! So the next time you drag me home make sure you know full well what’s going on and who you’re sitting next to!” I steamed.
I quickly made my way to my room and packed my things. My book bag, shirts, underwear, bras, toothbrush, everything was packed. I came stomping downstairs and ran into my brother.
“Don’t go,” he said. He didn’t understand that I was past rationalizing.
“Where do you think your-,” I cut her off midsentence. “Don’t worry about it,” I yelled. She seemed shocked that I could actually stand up for myself. I ran out of the house and ran into a strong chest. I tilted but was quickly caught and righted. Ted grabbed my hand and we hurried to the car. As soon as we got to the car he put the key in the ignition and raced off. I started laughing and then I got quiet. Ted looked at me confused. I started to feel weak thinking back how I just disrespected both my parents and may have ruined my reputation. There was no way they were going to let this go.
Ted reached for my hand and when he grabbed on to it he began rubbing small circles on top of my hands. I felt more relaxed. Ted let go of my head and I frowned. Then his hand came towards my face. He lightly touched my forehead and I fell into deep slumber.
I yawned and stretched my arms in the air. I rubbed my eyes. I felt groggy and hungry. I opened my eyes and found myself in a pink room with a large TV. in front of the very white and soft bed I was laying on. I looked around me and there were drawers that were placed around the room and a little white desk in the corner. This room wasn’t familiar and I felt weary.
After I was done surveying the room I hopped off the bed. I headed towards the door and in that instant it happened to open and hit me in the face. This time when I fell I did actually feel the ground beneath me. Blackness welcomed me once again.
