Ted’s Point of View
“I just wanted all of you to witness here someone’s overdue death,” said the Laney chick before she cut Nina’s throat. Immediately the floor beneath me disappeared and I collapsed. All I could do was stare helpless and watch the life get drained out of NIna.
“Ted, Ted!” I faintly heard someone call my name. My eyes were solely trained on Nina and how close to death she was. Then I felt a hand slap across my face.
“TED!” yelled Raquel. I stared at her with wide eyes.
“Get a grip. Go save Nina and take her to a hospital,” firmly ordered Raquel. All I could do was stare at her in horror.
“Now!” she yelled. In that moment it seemed as if I was waking up from a nightmare. I ran over to Nina’s body that was crumpled on the ground. I could see all the blood and she was going to run dry soon. I carefully placed her in my car and I looked back for the last time.
Raquel was fighting Jack while Cece had Laney’s hair in her hands. I ran to the driver’s side and jumped in. I turned on the engine and ripped the car into drive. I sped all the way to the hospital. I wasn’t about to let Nina die.
“Don’t give up on me now,” Nina I whispered. I parked the fastest I’ve ever parked and I grabbed Nina. By now she felt lighter and her complexion was a sickly white. I ran into the hospital all the while yelling for help.
One of the nurses heeded my call and came running towards me.
“Oh my god,” se breathed out. “Emergency room now. Come on people,” she yelled. Nurses and doctors came rushing over trying to help. I tried to follow them to the emergency room but they pushed me back.
“I have to go with her,” I kept on repeating.
“Sir we will notify you of any changes with the girl. Now please wait outside inn the waiting room,” said the nurse. She gave me a firm look saying she wouldn’t be moved by anything or anyone.
I sighed in defeat and went to go sit down in the waiting area. I sat by an anxious man and a teenage girl. The girl looked bored to death while the man on the opposite side looked on the verge of tears. I tapped my foot impatiently worried as to Nina’s condition.
Buzz! Buzz!
I felt a vibration in my back pants pocket. I stood up to pull whatever the thing was and the source proved to be my phone.
I glanced at it debating as to whether I should check it. Part of me hoped it was Cece with good news and the other half of me wanted me to give my full attention to Nina’s crisis.
After two seconds of arguing with myself I decided to check my phone. The message was from Jack. I could feel a growl wanting to erupt from my chest but thought it better to hold it back, wouldn’t want to scare these mortals and cause another big situation now would I?
Forgive me Ted. I’ve been very stupid and I haven’t thought through my actions. On a lighter tone Laney has been detained and I’m bringing her to the police office right now. Cece and Raquel are headed your way.
Sure enough Cece and Raquel arrived just thirteen minutes after the text was sent. Cece looked a mess. Her hair was slightly tangled, her clothes were dirty, and her complexion was pale. Raquel on the other hand was still the same as always. Her hair was loose and wild, her suit looked it had never been worn before, and she looked fit as a fiddle.
“Ted,” said Cece as she pushed her way through people. Raquel didn’t have to push people out of her way because they automatically parted for her. Her way with the humans never stopped to amaze me. They practically idolized her. She only ignored them though and never gave the attention much thought.
When they were finally before me Cece jumped on to me, giving me a great big bear hug. I hugged her back tightly thankful for her in my life. Raquel stood there awkwardly. She cleared her throat and when she did it was as if she broke Cece out of a trance because Cece jumped off of me.
“How’s the…you know. Human girl,” stumbled Raquel. I found it funny and cute she that she had a hard time asking about Nina.
“I don’t know,” I said sadly. My shoulders felt heavy and for the first time in a long time I felt powerless. I couldn’t save Nina. Only the doctors or someone with healing powers could possible save her. And that’s when it occurred to me that Jack might have been able to save Nina.
I pulled out my cellphone with lightning speed, feeling energized and hopeful since I’ve been at the hospital. I dialed Jack’s number and I heard the dial tone.
“Ted what are you-“began Cece but I stopped her before she interrupted my intensive thinking.
The phone was ringing and pretty soon I was muttering, “Come on. Pick up the phone.” Raquel seemed to have caught on to what I was doing because she stopped Cece from prying any further. Soon Cece and Raquel were also on their phones viciously calling Jack.
Then someone in a long white coat came and yelled out Nina’s name. I rushed forward almost running into the man hadn’t it been for Raquel’s hand holding me back.
The doctor eyed me but I persuaded him to begin telling Nina’s condition.
“She’s grave son,” began the doctor in an aged voice, “it would be a miracle if she would be able to live through this.” My face fell and I snapped my phone shut. My world was slowly crashing down. “She’s lost a lot of blood and we’re trying everything we can to save her, but I’m afraid it just won’t be enough.” That last sentence just sent me into an even darker abyss at an even faster pace than before.
Tears, something I haven’t done since forever, began to slowly make its way down my face. Cece looked heart broken, funny considering she didn’t like Nina at first; and Raquel, well she just looked a bit disheartened.
“I can’t do anything?” I numbly asked.
The doctor sorrowfully shook his head no and made his way back to the emergency room. My eyes trailed him and bore into his flawless whit coated back. I was going to lose the women I loved.
