"Pretty little charm, isn't it?"
Prem nodded his head in agreement at the old lady's statement, admiring the four leaf clover charm between his fingers.
"It's a well-known charm for good luck." The woman smiled at him knowingly, tone full of motherly warmth. "Thinking of getting it for a special someone?"
"Er...maybe."
Prem glanced over his shoulder and saw that Wad was still queueing up to get them drinks. Maybe, one day, he'd have enough courage to pass it to Wad. Nothing wrong with believing in a little luck. I sure as hell need it.
"I'll get this one. Thank you."
"I wish you all the luck and love in the world, young man."
Prem thanked her warmly and pocketed it just as Wad returned with two bottles of drinks. They had stopped for a quick break after an hour and a half of cycling, occasionally stopping for Prem to capture some scenic pictures (okay, maybe he had secretly snapped a couple of Wad's photos as well).
The weather was being nice for once. After days of sweltering heat, it was now cloudy and breezy with a hint of sun peeking out from behind the clouds.
"Thanks for inviting me out, P'. I'm always so busy in school that I forgot what it's like to have free time."
Ever since their (successful) first dinner date, Prem and Wad felt more comfortable communicating. They had met a couple more times during the first and second week of term break, just two friends confused about their actual status hanging out over coffee dates.
This thing between them...Prem knew there was something, but they were just too shy and hesitant to discuss it. The senior knew he cared greatly for the other, and that the feelings brewing was beyond a simple senior-junior friendship.
"I'm curious about something, P'." Wad said all of a sudden as they wheeled their bicycles down the pavement, butts aching from prolonged seating.
"Hm?"
Wad made a sound of contemplation. "That time...why did you help me? You could have just left me alone."
"I couldn't just stand there and let you get beat, could I? There were...what? Four of them against you? What sort of senior would I be if I didn't step in? Especially after all that preaching about helping each other."
"Do you think I'm an asshole?" Prem asked out of the blue, genuinely curious.
Wad simply raised an eyebrow, "Do you mean then or now? If you meant two years ago, I'd say yes."
Prem lightly jostled the younger male, "Wow, you didn't even pretend to think over that question. Thanks." He quipped sacrastically.
"You were an asshole." Prem rubbed his knuckles against the side of the junior's head. "Ow, P'! But...what I think now...is that beneath that tough guy exterior,is someone who cares a lot for his friends. You pretend not to and hide behind your tough guy facade because it's something you're so used to doing."
Man, that really struck home. He didn't know what to say or how to respond to that (accurate) statement.
Eager to change the subject, Prem asked, "Do you...er, have a girlfriend?"
Wad snorted derisively, "A face and attitude like mine doesn't really attract girls, P'. They think I'm too problematic. I don't have much luck in the love department."
