"Wait. Kongpob."
Arthit held on to his boyfriend's hand, the uncertainty mounting up within him now that they were right outside the gate. Was he presentable enough? He had chosen his best pair of jeans (the ones without the fashionably ripped holes in the knees) and a button down shirt which he only wore on special occasions.
"Do I look okay?" Arthit asked for the nth time.
He had even made the effort to comb his hair instead of leaving it unstyled like he usually would! Bright would probably say something like 'A+ for effort in dressing up to meet your parents-in-law' or something like that. Okay, he missed that bugger.
Arthit clutched at Kongpob's hand, trusting the younger male to keep him calm and grounded.
"I feel like I'm going to throw up. Why did I let you talk me into this? I'm not ready-"
Kongpob pressed the bell at the side of the gate and a second later, the gates slid open and a motherly-looking housekeeper hurried out to help them with their bags. Arthit stood awkwardly at the side, still gripping Kongpob's hand, and he was tempted to run off in the other direction when another lady appeared. Judging by her features, Arthit harboured a guess that she was most likely Kongpob's mother. What he noticed first was her eyes. Warm and friendly, and it reminded him of his own mother.
She wrapped Kongpob up in a tight hug the moment they were near enough, affectionately kissing him on the cheeks, her ruby painted lips curving up into a gentle smile when her gaze landed on Arthit.
"You must be Arthit."
Respectfully, Arthit clasped his hands together and bowed, startled when she embraced him. Just as he was about to relax at the welcoming gesture, two ladies appeared at the door with identical grins on their faces.
"Look who's finally home! Welcome back, baby brother!"
Arthit could see why his boyfriend was such an affectionate and touchy person by nature. Both Kongpob's sisters drew him into a tight hug, one trying to outtalk the other and he was glad that they hadn't noticed him yet-"
"Oooh, you weren't kidding when you said he was cute!" The taller of the two with the lighter brown-coloured hair spoke up. "Arthit, right? Oh my god, Rin, look at his baby face!"
Kongpob was quick to rush to his boyfriend's rescue, "P', don't scare him like that." He pointed to both his sisters to introduce them, "That's P'Rin. She's the oldest one. And that's P'Syai." He couldn't help but to agree with both his sisters. "I told you he was cute."
"Our baby brother is all grown up." The one called Rin fake-sobbed into her sister's shoulder.
Kongpob's mother clucked her tongue at her daughters, "That's enough, you two. Don't tease our guest like that."
All of them entered the house and Arthit could finally breathe when Kongpob's sisters disappeared into the kitchen to help their mother.
"See? It's not that bad."
"I don't know. I can't really feel my knees right now."
Arthit was having a taste of his own medicine now. Was this how Kongpob had felt the first time he visited? Kongpob led him up the stairs to the second floor and down a hallway towards where a bedroom was located at the end. Arthit realized that there were quite a number of photo frames adorning the walls as decorations; most of it of Kongpob and his sisters, some graduation ones and what looked like a full family photo with Kongpob's niece and brother-in-law inside.
''Come in, P'. This is my room. I'm not sure if the guest room is prepared yet...but you can always sleep with me if it's not.''
''Are you crazy?'' Arthit hissed as he thwacked his boyfriend on the stomach. ''I'm not sleeping in the same room as you when your parents and sisters are here!''
